¹⁶ It was the law and the prophets until John, but ever since that time the good news of the kingdom of God has been proclaimed, and everybody has been taking it by storm.

² and saying, "Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is near."

¹⁷ From that time Jesus continued to preach and say, "Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is near."

²³ Then He went all over Galilee, as He continued teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and curing any disease or malady among the people.

⁷ And as you go continue to preach, 'The kingdom of heaven is near.'

⁹ If not, why did you go out there? To see a prophet? ¹⁰ This is the man of whom the Scripture says, "'Attention! I am sending my messenger on before you; He will prepare the road ahead of you.' ¹¹ "I solemnly say to you, of all men born of women no one greater than John the Baptist has ever appeared; and yet the one who is least important in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until the present moment the kingdom of heaven has been continuously taken by storm, and those who take it by storm are seizing it as a precious prize. ¹³ For up to the days of John all the prophets, and even the law, prophesied about it, ¹⁴ and if you are willing to accept it, John himself is the Elijah who was to come.

³² For John came to you walking in the way of uprightness, and yet you did not believe him. The tax-collectors and prostitutes did believe him, but you, even though you saw that, would not change your minds afterward and believe him.

¹⁴ Now after John was arrested, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God:

⁴⁵ But he went out and began to publish it so much and to spread the story so far, that Jesus could not any more go into any town openly, but had to stay out in thinly settled places. But the people kept coming to Him from every quarter.

²⁶ If not, then what did you go out there to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one who is far more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is the man of whom the Scripture says: "'Attention! I send my messenger on before you. He will prepare the road ahead of you.' ²⁸ "I tell you, of all men born of women there is not one greater than John; and yet the one who is of least importance in the kingdom of God is greater than he. ²⁹ And all the people, even the tax-collectors, when they heard him, vindicated the righteous requirements of God by submitting to John's baptism,

² and then He sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to cure the sick.

⁹ to cure the sick there, and to say, 'The kingdom of God is close upon you.'

¹¹ 'We are wiping off against you the very dust from your town that has stuck to our feet. But understand this, the kingdom of God is close by.'

²⁹ But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them listen to them.'

³¹ Then he answered, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced, even if someone rises from the dead.'"

⁴⁵ Philip sought out Nathaniel and said to him, "We have found the One about whom Moses wrote in the law and the One about whom the prophets wrote; it is Jesus, the son of Joseph, who comes from Nazareth."

⁴⁸ If we let Him go on this way, everybody will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and blot out both our city and nation."

¹⁹ So the Pharisees said to one another, "You see, you cannot help it at all; the whole world has gone off after Him!"

¹⁸ But in this way God fulfilled what He by the lips of all the prophets foretold, that the Christ should suffer.

²⁴ Yes, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel down, have also foretold these days. ²⁵ And you are the descendants of the prophets and the heirs of the sacred compact which God made with your forefathers, when He said to Abraham: 'All the families of the earth are to be blessed through your posterity.'
