¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect boon is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, in whom there is no variation or changing shadow.

¹¹ So if you, in spite of your being bad, know how to give your children what is good, how much more surely will your heavenly Father give what is good to those who keep on asking Him?

²⁵ At that time Jesus said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for concealing these matters from wise and learned men, and for revealing them to little children. ²⁶ Yes, Father, I thank You that Your good pleasure made it so.

¹¹ He answered: "It is you and not they who are granted the privilege of knowing the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. ¹² For to anyone who has, more will be given, and his supply will overflow, but from anyone who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

¹³ So if you, in spite of your being bad, know how to give your children what is good, how much more surely will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who continue to ask Him?"

⁹ The real light, which sheds light upon everyone, was just coming into the world.

²⁷ John answered, "A man cannot get anything, unless it is given to him from heaven.

¹² Then Jesus again addressed them and said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever continues to follow me need never walk in darkness, but he will enjoy the light that means life."

³¹ God has exalted to His right hand this very One as our Leader and Saviour, in order to give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel.

¹⁸ When they heard this, they had no answer to make, but gave God the glory, saying, "So God has given even the heathen the repentance that leads to life."

²³ For the wages paid by sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life through union with Christ Jesus our Lord.

²⁹ for the gracious gifts and call of God are never taken back. ³⁰ For just as you once disobeyed God, but now have had mercy shown you because of their disobedience,

⁶ As we have gifts that differ in accordance with the favor God has shown us, if it is that of preaching, let it be done in proportion to our faith; ⁷ or of practical service, in the field of service; or of a teacher, in the field of teaching; ⁸ or of one who encourages others, in the field of encouragement; or one who gives his money, with liberality; or one who leads others, with earnestness; or one who does deeds of charity, with cheerfulness.

⁷ For who makes you superior? And what do you have that you did not get from someone? But if you got it from someone, why do you boast as though you had not?

⁴ There are varieties of gifts, but the Spirit is the same in all; ⁵ there are varieties of service, but the Lord to be served is the same; ⁶ there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who does all things by putting energy in us all. ⁷ To each of us is given a special spiritual illumination for the common good. ⁸ To one, wise speech is given by the Spirit; to another, by the same Spirit, intelligent speech is given; ⁹ to another, through union with the same Spirit, faith; to another, by one and the same Spirit, power to cure the sick; ¹⁰ to another, power for working wonders; to another, prophetic insight; to another, the power to discriminate between the true Spirit and false spirits; to another, various ecstatic utterances; and to another, the power to explain them. ¹¹ But the one and same Spirit accomplishes all these achievements, and apportions power to each of us as He chooses. ¹² For just as the human body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts of the body, many as they are, constitute but one body, so it is with Christ.

⁶ For God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," is the One who has shone in my heart, to give me the light of the knowledge of God's glory, reflected on the face of Christ.

¹⁸ by having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, so that you may know what the hope is to which He calls you, how glorious rich God's portion in His people is,

³ once lived while gratifying the cravings of our lower nature, as we continued to carry out the impulses of our lower nature and its thoughts, and by nature we were exposed to God's wrath, as the rest of mankind. ⁴ But God, who is so rich in mercy on account of the great love He has for us, ⁵ has made us, though dead because of our shortcomings, live again in fellowship with Christ -- it is by His unmerited favor that you have been saved.

⁸ For it is by His unmerited favor through faith that you have been saved; it is not by anything that you have done, it is the gift of God.

⁸ Concerning this the Scripture says: "He led a host of captives, when He went up on high, and granted gifts to men." ⁹ What does "He went up" mean, except that He had first gone down into the lower regions of the earth? ¹⁰ The very One that went down has gone up, too, far above all the heavens, to fill the universe. ¹¹ And He has given some men to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, some to be pastors and teachers,

²⁹ For it has been graciously granted to you for Christ's sake, not only to trust in Him but also to suffer for Him,

³ For once we too were without understanding, disobedient, misled, habitual slaves to all sorts of passions and pleasures, spending our lives in malice and envy. ⁴ But when the goodness and lovingkindness of God our Saviour were brought to light, ⁵ He saved us, not for upright deeds that we had done, but in accordance with His mercy, through the bath of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,

¹¹ They will perish, but you always remain; they all will grow old like a coat, ¹² And you will fold them up just like a robe, and they will be changed like the changing of one's coat, but you are the same, and your years will never cease."

⁸ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes, forever.

⁵ But if any one of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask God who generously gives to everyone and never reproaches one with its lack, and it will be given to him.

¹⁵ This is not the kind of wisdom that comes down from above; no, it is earthly, human, demoniacal.

¹⁷ The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of compassion and good deeds, free from doubts and insincerity.

⁵ And this is the message that we have heard from Him and now announce to you: God is light, and there is no darkness at all in Him.

¹⁰ In this way is seen the true love, not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

¹¹ And this testimony is that God has given us eternal life, and this life is given through union with His Son. ¹² Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son does not have life.

²³ The city does not need the sun or moon to shine in it, for the glory of God has lighted it, and the Lamb is its lamp.

⁵ There will be no night any longer; so they will need no lamplight nor sunlight, for the Lord God will give them light, and they will rule forever and ever.
