¹ This is why we must pay much closer attention to the message once heard, to keep from drifting to one side.

⁹ Do you not understand yet? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many basketfuls you took up?

¹⁸ Since you have eyes can you not see with them? Since you have ears can you not hear with them?

¹⁵ But the portion in rich soil illustrates those who listen to the message, keep it in good and honest hearts, and in patience yield fruit.

⁴⁴ "You must store away in your memories these words, for the Son of Man is going to be turned over to the hands of men!"

¹ It was bit by bit and in many different ways that God in olden times spoke to our forefathers through the prophets, ² but in these latter days He has spoken to us through a Son, whom He had appointed lawful owner of everything, and through whom He had made the worlds.

² For if the message spoken through angels proved to be valid, and every violation and infraction of it had its adequate penalty, ³ how can we escape, if we pay no attention at all to a salvation that is so great? This is so because it was first proclaimed by the Lord Himself, and then it was proved to us to be valid by the very men who heard Him themselves, ⁴ while God continued to confirm their testimony with signs, marvels, and various sorts of wonder-works, and with gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed in accordance with His will.

⁵ and you have forgotten the encouragement which is addressed to you as sons: "My son, refrain from thinking lightly of the discipline the Lord inflicts, and giving up when you are corrected by Him.

²⁵ See to it that you do not refuse to listen to Him who is speaking to you. For if they did not escape, because they refused to listen to him who warned them here on earth, how much less can we, if we reject Him who is from heaven? ²⁶ Then His voice shook the earth,

¹² Therefore, I will always remind you of these things, although you know them and are firmly grounded in the truth that you already have. ¹³ Yet I think it right, as long as I live in this bodily tent, to arouse you by a reminder,

¹⁵ Yes, I will be in earnest, so that every time you have occasion, after I have gone away, you may call these things to mind.

¹ This is the second letter, dearly beloved, that I have already written to you, in both of which I am trying by reminders to stir up your unsullied minds
