²⁰ For some of the things you bring sound startling to us; so we want to know just what they mean."

²³ Jesus said to His disciples, "I solemnly say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven. ²⁴ Again, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven." ²⁵ But when the disciples heard this, they were dumbfounded, and asked, "Who then can be saved!"

¹⁰ And they held that caution fast in their minds, as they continued to discuss among themselves what rising from the dead meant.

²⁴ His disciples were startled at this statement. But Jesus again said to them as He continued the topic, "My children, how hard it is to get into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ It is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich man to get into the kingdom of God." ²⁶ They were perfectly dumbfounded, and said to Him, "Then who can be saved?"

⁶⁰ So many of His disciples, when they heard it, said, "This teaching is hard to take in. Who can listen to it?"

³⁵ The Jews then said to one another, "Where is He about to go that we shall not find Him? He is not going to our people scattered among the Greeks, and going to teach the Greeks, is He? ³⁶ What does He mean by saying, 'You will look for me and will not find me, and you cannot come where I am going'?"

¹² And thus they all continued to be astounded and bewildered, and continued to say to each other, "What can this mean?"

¹⁷ Now while Peter was still at a loss to know what the vision he had seen could mean, the men who had been sent by Cornelius had asked for the way to Simon's house and had stopped at the gate;

¹⁸ For the message of the cross is nonsense to those who are in the process of being destroyed, but it is the power of God to those who are in the process of being saved.

²³ we are preaching the Christ who was crucified -- a message that is a trap-stick to the Jews and nonsense to the Greeks,

¹⁴ An unspiritual man does not accept the things that the Spirit of God teaches, for they are nonsense to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are appreciated by spiritual insight.

¹¹ I have much to say to you about Him, but it is difficult to make it clear to you, since you have become so dull in your spiritual senses.

⁴ They are astonished that you are not still rushing hand in hand with them into the same excesses of profligate living, and they abuse you for it;
