³⁰ They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what thou dost work?

³⁸ Then certain of the Scribes and of the Pharisees answered him, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. ³⁹ But he answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shalt no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet, Jonas.

¹ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting, desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. ² But he answered and said, When it is evening, ye say, Fair weather: for the sky is red. ³ And in the morning Foul weather to day: for the heaven is red and lowering. Ye can discern the face of heaven, but can ye not the signs of the times? ⁴ A wicked generation seeketh after a sign, and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

¹¹ And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

³² Let Christ the king of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe him. And they that were crucified with him, reproached him.

²⁹ And when the multitudes were gathered thick together, he began to say, This generation is an evil generation: they seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given it, excepting the sign of Jonas. ³⁰ For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. And as Jonas was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so shall also the son of man be in the earth.

¹⁸ The answered the Jews, and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, that thou dost these things?

⁸ For his disciples were gone unto the city to buy provisions.

³⁶ But I said unto you, that ye also have seen me, and believe not.

³⁸ But if I do, though ye will not believe me, believe the works: that ye may know and believe that the Father [is] in me, and I in the Father.

³⁷ But though he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not on him:

²⁵ The other disciples therefore said unto him, that We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, put my hands into his Side, and put my finger into the print of the nails, I will not believe. ²⁶ And after eight days, again the disciples were within, and Thomas with them: Then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace [be] unto you. ²⁷ Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and put unto my side; and be not faithless, but believing. ²⁸ Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord, and my God. ²⁹ Jesus saith unto him, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed; blessed [are] they that have not seen, and have believed.

³⁰ By stretching forth [thine] hand to heal: and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy Son Jesus.

²² For the Jews require signs, and the Greeks seek wisdom:

⁴ God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to the will of God.
