¹ Let us therefore fear, lest a promise being left of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

²¹ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens: but he that doeth the will of my father who is in the heavens, he shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out dæmons? and in thy name done many wonderful works? ²³ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me all ye that work iniquity.

²⁶ And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: ²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house: and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

⁴⁸ But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delayeth to come.

⁴⁵ But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants, and maidens, both eating, and drinking, and being drunken: ⁴⁶ His lord will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

²⁵ When once the master of the house shall be come in, and shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence you are: ²⁶ Then shall ye begin to say, Lord, we have eat and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. ²⁷ And he shall say, I tell you, I never knew you: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. ²⁸ There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you thrust out. ²⁹ And they shall come from the east, and the west, and the north, and the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. ³⁰ And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last.

³ For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? ⁴ God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

²³ For all have sinned; and come short of the glory of God;

²⁰ Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high minded, but fear.

²⁶ I therefore so run, not as uncertainly: so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: ²⁷ But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means when I have preached to others, I my self should be a castaway.

¹² Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.

¹³ If we believe not, he abideth faithful; he cannot deny himself.

¹ Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let [them] slip. ² For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; ³ How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation? which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard [him];

¹¹ So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.

³ For we who have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. ⁴ For he spake in a certain place of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. ⁵ And in this again, If they shalt enter into my rest.

⁹ Therefore this is another rest yet to come, for the people of God.

¹¹ Let us labour therefore, Brethren, to enter into that rest, lest any man fall from the same example of truth.

¹⁵ Looking diligently, that no one fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness spring up, with gall, and thereby many be defiled:

²⁵ Seethat ye refuse not him that speaketh to you: For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more we, if we turn away from him that is from the heavens:

⁷ Remember them who have the rule [over you], who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
