¹⁰ And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and hate one another.

²¹ But the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child; and children shall rise up against their parents, and kill them.

³⁵ For I am come to set a man at variance with his father, and the daughter with her mother, and the daughter-in-law with her mother-in-law. ³⁶ And the foes of a man shall be they of his own houshold.

⁶ And as they departed,

²¹ Yet hath he not root in himself, and so endureth but for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straight-way he is offended.

⁵⁷ And they were offended at him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.

²¹ And they were exceeding sorrowful and began each of them to say to him, ²² Lord, Is it I? ²³ And he answering said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same will betray me. ²⁴ The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but wo to that man, by whom the Son of man is betrayed: it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

³¹ Then saith Jesus to them, All ye will be offended at me this night, for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered. ³² But after I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee. ³³ Peter answering said to him, Tho' all should be offended at thee, I will never be offended. ³⁴ Jesus said to him, Verily I say to thee, before cock-crowing thou wilt deny me thrice.

¹⁷ afterward when affliction or persecution ariseth because of the word, they are presently offended.

¹⁶ But ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolk, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.

⁶⁰ Many of his disciples hearing it, said, This is an hard saying: who can hear it? ⁶¹ Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured about this, said to them, Doth this offend you?

⁶⁶ From this time many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him. ⁶⁷ Then said Jesus to the twelve, Are ye also minded to go away?

¹⁵ This thou knowest, that all who are in Asia are turned away from me, of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

¹⁰ For Demas hath forsaken me, loving the present world, and is gone to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

¹⁶ At my first defence no man was with me, but all forsook me: may it not be laid to their charge?
