³⁹ But the Pharisee who had invited him, seeing it, spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known, who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him; for she is a sinner.

¹² But Jesus hearing it, said to them, They that are whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. ¹³ But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy and not sacrifice; for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

¹⁶ So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many are called, but few chosen.

²⁸ But what think you? A man had two sons; and coming to the first, he said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. ²⁹ He answering said, I will not; but afterward repenting, he went. ³⁰ And coming to the other, he said likewise. And he answered, I go Sir: but went not. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say to him, The first. Jesus saith to them, Verily I say to you, the publicans and harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

⁶ But certain of the scribes were sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? ⁷ Who can forgive sins, but God only?

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of man proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and say not within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father; for I say to you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.

¹⁶ And fear seized all, and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet is risen up among us; and, God hath visited his people.

³⁷ And behold a woman in the city, who had been a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at table in the Pharisee's house,

¹⁷ saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. And he reasoned in himself, saying, What shall I do?

² And the Pharisees and scribes murmured saying, This man receiveth sinners and eateth with them.

²⁸ But he was angry, and would not go in: therefore his father coming out intreated him. ²⁹ And he answering said to his father, Lo these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I thy commandment at any time, yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends. ³⁰ But as soon as this thy son was come, who hath devoured thy substance with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

³ And the steward said in himself, What shall I do? For my lord taketh away the stewardship from me. I cannot dig, to beg I am ashamed.

⁴ And he would not for a while, but afterwards he said in himself, Tho' I fear not God nor reverence man,

⁹ And he spake this parable to certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others. ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed thus, God I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, rapacious, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

¹⁹ The woman saith to him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

¹² And there was much murmuring among the multitude concerning him: for some said, He is a good man; others said, Nay; but he seduceth the people.

⁴⁰ Many of the people therefore hearing this discourse, said, Certainly this is the prophet. ⁴¹ Others said, This is the Christ.

⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered, Are ye also deceived? ⁴⁸ Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees? ⁴⁹ But this populace, who know not the law, are accursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus (he that had come to Jesus by night, being one of them) saith to them, ⁵¹ Doth our law judge a man before it hear him, and know what he doth? ⁵² They answered and said to him, Art thou also a Galilean?

²⁴ Therefore they called a second time the man that had been blind, and said to him, Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.
