²² And they all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

⁵⁴ he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, Whence hath HE this wisdom and these mighty works? ⁵⁵ Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And his brethren, James and Joses and Simon and Judas? ⁵⁶ And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath HE all these things?

² And on the sabbath he taught in the synagogue, and many hearing were astonished, saying, Whence hath this man these things? And what wisdom is this that is given him, that such mighty works are wrought by his hands? ³ Is not this the carpenter? The son of Mary, the brother of James and Joses, and of Judas and Simon! And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

⁴⁷ And all that heard him were astonished, at his understanding and answers.

¹⁵ which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay or resist.

⁴² And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then saith he, I came down from heaven?

⁴⁶ The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

¹⁰ And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake.

⁸ that he who is on the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of us.
