¹ Then Jesus, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had been dead, whom he had raised from the dead.

¹⁷ And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.

⁶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came to him a woman; ⁷ having an alabaster box of very costly ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at table. ⁸ But his disciples seeing it, had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? ⁹ For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. ¹⁰ Jesus knowing it, said to them, Why trouble ye the woman? ¹¹ She hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

¹¹ And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple, and having looked round about upon all things, it being now evening, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

³ And he being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment, of spikenard, very costly; and shaking the box, she poured it on his head. ⁴ But there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? ⁵ For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence and given to the poor. And they murmured at her. ⁶ But Jesus said, Let her alone: why trouble ye her? She hath wrought a good work on me. ⁷ For ye have the poor always with you, and when ye will, ye may do them good; but me ye have not always. ⁸ She hath done what she could: she hath before-hand embalmed my body for the burial.

⁵⁰ And he led them out as far as Bethany; and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.

¹ Now one Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha, was sick.

⁴⁴ And he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapt about with a napkin. Jesus saith to them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁵⁵ And the passover of the Jews was nigh; and many went up to Jerusalem, to purify themselves.

²⁰ Now among those who came up to worship at the feast, there were certain Greeks.
