⁹ BETH. Wherewith shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed to it, according to thy word. ¹⁰ With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. ¹¹ Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.

¹⁰ When wisdom entereth into thy heart, and knowledge is pleasant to thy soul; ¹¹ Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: ¹² To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; ¹³ Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; ¹⁴ Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; ¹⁵ Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

³⁴ For I will defend this city, to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect towards him. In this thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

¹¹ (5:10)Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee. ¹² (5:11)But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

¹² Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thy hand: forget not the humble. ¹³ Why doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it. ¹⁴ Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself to thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless. ¹⁵ Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou shalt find none. ¹⁶ The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen have perished out of his land.

⁸ He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor. ⁹ He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net. ¹⁰ He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as are of upright deportment.

¹⁷ (88:16)Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.

¹³ He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; ¹⁴ Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

⁵ O Assyrian, the rod of my anger, and the staff in their hand is my indignation.

¹⁵ Shall the ax boast itself against him that heweth with it? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that moveth it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it, or as if the staff should lift itself, as if it were no wood.

⁵ They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

²⁶ Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldst be to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on thy strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not that which hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?

¹² Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.

²⁸ To do whatever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

⁶ The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.

⁹ Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, and, are mighty in power? ⁸ Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. ¹⁰ Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹² They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. ¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. ¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

²¹ For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹⁴ If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he should heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay? ¹⁷ He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

⁶ (39:5)Behold, thou hast made my days as a hand-breadth; and my age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

¹⁷ (49:16)Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; ¹⁸ (49:17)For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him. ¹⁹ (49:18)Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.

³ For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they afflicted like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride encompasseth them as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

¹² Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

⁴ If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

⁴⁴ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hid in a field; which, when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast abundance of goods laid up for many years; take thy ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? ²¹ So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy life-time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

²⁷ Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldst send him to my father's house: ²⁸ For I have five brethren; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

²³ And he said to them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

¹⁴ I have given to them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

²⁶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping animal that creepeth upon the earth. ²⁷ So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

⁸ With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: why then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

¹² So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens shall be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

²⁶ And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: ²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

⁶ (4:5)Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. ⁷ (4:6)There are many that say, Who will show us any good? LORD, lift thou upon us the light of thy countenance.

⁷ (5:6)Thou shalt destroy them that speak falsehood: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

⁷ For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance beholdeth the upright.

¹¹ Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.

⁸ (36:7)How excellent is thy loving-kindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. ⁹ (36:8)They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

¹⁴ (49:13)This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

⁴ (65:3)Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.

¹¹¹ Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

¹⁹ Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

⁶ Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled.

⁵² And the graves were opened, and many bodies of saints who slept, arose, ⁵³ And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared to many.

¹⁸ But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

²¹ Who will change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like to his glorious body, according to the working by which he is able even to subdue all things to himself.

² Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. ³ And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will feed them, and will lead them to living fountains of waters: and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.

³ And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them, and be their God. ⁴ And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God enlightened it, and the Lamb is the light of it.
