²⁰ A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

²¹ He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.

²⁵ A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.

¹³ A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

¹⁵ My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. ¹⁶ Yes, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

²⁴ The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. ²⁵ Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bore thee shall rejoice.

¹ These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

³ He that loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.

¹⁵ The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

¹⁹ And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have showed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.

⁹ And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge: yes, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

⁶ (49:5)Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall encompass me? ⁷ (49:6)They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁸ (49:7)None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: ⁹ (49:8)(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) ¹⁰ (49:9)That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.

⁴ Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

²⁸ In the way of righteousness is life; and in the path of it there is no death.

⁶ The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro by them that seek death.

² To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless! ³ And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?

¹⁹ They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels because it is the stumbling-block of their iniquity.

²⁷ Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thy iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he will make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

¹⁵ And he said to them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. ¹⁶ And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to deposit my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I deposit all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast abundance of goods laid up for many years; take thy ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? ²¹ So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried: ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

⁵ But after thy hardness and impenitent heart, treasurest up to thyself wrath against the day of wrath, and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

²¹ That as sin hath reigned to death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to eternal life, by Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁹ And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith:

¹ Come now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have amassed treasure for the last days.

²⁰ In famine he will redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

⁵ That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? ⁶ Though his excellence shall mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds; ⁷ Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they who have seen him shall say, Where is he? ⁸ He shall fly away as a dream, and will not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.

²⁰ Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his food be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.

²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

¹⁴ Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself to thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.

¹⁹ To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

⁹ (34:8)O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. ¹⁰ (34:9)O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

³ Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

¹⁹ They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

²⁵ I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

¹⁰ The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

¹⁶ He shall dwell on high: his place of defense shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay! ⁷ Shall they not rise suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall disturb thee, and thou shalt be for booties to them? ⁸ Because thou hast laid waste many nations, all the remnant of the people shall lay thee waste; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

³⁰ Wherefore, if God so clotheth the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? ³¹ Therefore be not anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or, with what shall we be clothed? ³² (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. ³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

²² And he said to his disciples, Therefore I say to you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. ²³ The life is more than food, and the body is more than raiment. ²⁴ Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap: which neither have store-house, nor barn; and God feedeth them: How much more are ye better than the fowls?

³¹ But rather seek ye the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.

⁵ Let your manner of life be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. ⁶ So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me.

⁶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: ⁷ Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, ⁸ Provideth her provisions in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? ¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as one that traveleth, and thy want as an armed man.

²⁴ There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.

²⁴ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

⁴ The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

¹⁵ Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

²⁴ A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

⁴ The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

¹³ Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thy eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

⁵ The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

³⁰ I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; ³¹ And lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face of it, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. ³³ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ³⁴ So shall thy poverty come as one that traveleth; and thy want as an armed man.

¹⁸ By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

²⁷ Labor not for the food which perisheth, but for that food which endureth to everlasting life, which the Son of man will give to you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

⁵⁸ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

¹¹ And we desire every one of you to show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope to the end: ¹² That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

⁵ And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; ⁶ And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; ⁷ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. ⁸ For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purified from his old sins. ¹⁰ Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

⁶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

⁴ A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

² A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

²⁶ He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

²⁵ The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;

⁶ Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

² And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God.

⁸ Then the king returned out of the palace-garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman had fallen upon the bed on which Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.

¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

⁴² The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: ¹⁷ But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. ¹⁸ The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered to me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

³⁶ And to his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for me to put my name there.

³⁴ For I will defend this city, to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

¹⁶ And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both towards God, and towards his house.

¹⁷ His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

¹⁵ Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

⁶ Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

¹⁰ And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

¹³ O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.

⁹ Verily I say to you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of, for a memorial of her.

⁴⁸ For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for behold, from henceforth all generations will call me blessed.

³⁴ Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yes, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

⁵ A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain to wise counsels:

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹⁰ He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

¹ Whoever loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

¹³ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

⁸ The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

²³ In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes. ⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

¹² The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

²⁴ Therefore whoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house upon a rock: ²⁵ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

¹³ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show by a good deportment his works with meekness of wisdom.

⁴ Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shades of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

²¹ Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.

¹¹ But as for me, I will walk in my integrity: redeem me, and be merciful to me. ¹² My foot standeth in an even place: in the congregations will I bless the LORD.

¹¹ (84:10)For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a door-keeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

²³ Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

²⁰ He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.

¹⁸ He who walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

¹⁵ He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; ¹⁶ He shall dwell on high: his place of defense shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

²⁶ Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

¹ In the mean time, when there was gathered an innumerable multitude of people, so that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord shall come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise from God.

¹³ And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; so that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation. ¹⁴ But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

²⁵ Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

¹² Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,

¹⁹ Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

¹³ He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

⁸ The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit of it.

¹⁰ Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content with that, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

¹⁵ There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

¹² The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. ¹⁴ A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh. ³⁵ A good man, out of the good treasure of the heart, bringeth forth good things: and an evil man, out of the evil treasure, bringeth forth evil things. ³⁶ But I say to you, That for every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

²⁹ Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers.

⁵ Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire from hell. ⁷ For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of animals in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind: ⁸ But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁸ A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

²⁷ An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.

⁹ He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

²⁵ He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

²² An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

⁴ Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, ⁵ Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; ⁶ Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; ⁷ Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

¹ From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even from your lusts that war in your members?

²⁰ Let him know, that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will hide a multitude of sins.

⁸ And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity will cover a multitude of sins.

¹² And the LORD said to Moses, Stretch out thy hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.

⁹ Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near to thee.

³² But whoever committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

²² He goeth after her quickly, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

¹⁰ He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall. ¹¹ The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

³¹ The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

²³ A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

¹⁰ A reproof entereth more into a wise man than a hundred stripes into a fool.

²⁹ Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

³ A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.

²² Though thou shouldst bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

⁴ The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth my ear to hear as the learned.

²² And all bore him testimony, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

¹ Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

¹⁵ The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

⁸ He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

²³ Whoever keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

³⁵ A good man, out of the good treasure of the heart, bringeth forth good things: and an evil man, out of the evil treasure, bringeth forth evil things.

⁴⁴ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hid in a field; which, when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

⁵² Then said he to them, Therefore every scribe who is instructed to the kingdom of heaven, is like a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

⁶ For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined into our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. ⁷ But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God, and not from us.

²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; ²⁵ If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gained much;

⁶ (49:5)Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall encompass me?

⁷ (52:5)God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling-place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

²⁰ The poor is hated even by his own neighbor: but the rich hath many friends.

¹¹ The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own conceit.

⁷ All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

²² Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: ²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

¹² For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: but the excellence of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

²³ Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

¹ Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

²⁴ And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith to them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast abundance of goods laid up for many years; take thy ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

¹⁸ The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. ¹⁹ As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

³⁰ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

¹⁰ Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

¹⁷ Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

³³ Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by its fruit. ³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

²³ For the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that soweth to his flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption: but he that soweth to the Spirit, shall from the Spirit reap life everlasting. ⁹ And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

¹⁷ And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymeneus and Philetus; ¹⁸ Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

¹³ But evil men and seducers will become worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

¹⁰ For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have shown towards his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, Art thou made of the king's council? forbear? why shouldst thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbore, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened to my counsel.

²⁵ But ye have set at naught all my counsel, and rejected my reproof: ²⁶ I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

³⁰ They rejected my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

¹ My son, forget not my law; but let thy heart keep my commandments; ² For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

⁴ He taught me also, and said to me, Let thy heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

¹³ Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

¹² And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

²³ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

¹⁰ Correction is grievous to him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

¹⁷ Bow down thy ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart to my knowledge. ¹⁸ For it is a pleasant thing if thou keepest them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips. ¹⁹ That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

¹ He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

⁶ (5:7)For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God.

²⁴ Therefore whoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house upon a rock: ²⁵ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. ²⁶ And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: ²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

²⁸ But he said, Yes, rather blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

¹ Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

²⁵ See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

⁵ And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; ⁶ And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; ⁷ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. ⁸ For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purified from his old sins. ¹⁰ Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: ¹¹ For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

²¹ And Saul said, I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son-in-law, in the one of the two. ²² And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son-in-law.

⁸ And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king. ⁹ But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house. ¹⁰ And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down to his house, David said to Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down to thy house? ¹¹ And Uriah said to David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing. ¹² And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to-day also, and to-morrow I will let thee depart. ¹⁹ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

² For in many things we all offend. If any man offendeth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

⁵ And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

²¹ And the LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth: neither will I again smite any more every living animal as I have done.

¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

¹⁸ There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

⁴ A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness in it is a breach in the spirit.

¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.

⁷ For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.

²⁹ For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

²³ He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

¹⁶ Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?

⁹ And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge: yes, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

¹⁵ And I will give you pastors according to my heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

¹⁶ Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

⁶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

¹⁹ When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the way side.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men have loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

² Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight of it, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but from a ready mind;

² And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

² And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

²³ That I will not take from a thread even to a shoe-latchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:

³⁵ And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly, and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and camels, and asses.

¹² Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year a hundred-fold: and the LORD blessed him:

¹⁷ And thou shalt say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand hath gotten me this wealth. ¹⁸ But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to thy fathers, as it is this day.

⁷ The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. ⁸ He raiseth the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.

¹⁹ And thou shalt speak to him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak to him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.

²⁶ And he said to him, Went not my heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive-yards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and men-servants, and maid-servants? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave to thee, and to thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God? ¹¹ I will teach you by the hand of God: that which is with the Almighty will I not conceal. ¹² Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; why then are ye thus altogether vain? ¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty. ¹⁴ If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he should heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay? ¹⁷ He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place. ²² For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

²² For such as are blessed by him shall inherit the earth; and they that are cursed by him shall be cut off.

³⁸ He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.

⁷ He raiseth the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; ⁸ That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

²¹ An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end of it shall not be blessed.

²² He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay! ⁷ Shall they not rise suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall disturb thee, and thou shalt be for booties to them? ⁸ Because thou hast laid waste many nations, all the remnant of the people shall lay thee waste; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein. ⁹ Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! ¹⁰ Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. ¹² Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and establisheth a city by iniquity!

⁴ I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones.

¹ Come now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have amassed treasure for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped your fields, which is by you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

¹⁴ Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

⁹ Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favor.

²¹ Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.

¹⁸ As a mad man who casteth fire-brands, arrows, and death, ¹⁹ So is the man that deceiveth his neighbor, and saith, Am not I in sport?

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thy eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

²⁵ For the thing which I greatly feared hath come upon me, and that which I dreaded hath come to me.

²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

⁴ Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he will give thee the desires of thy heart.

¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

⁴ I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spoke, they did not hear: but they did evil before my eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.

⁶ Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled.

¹⁸ I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.

²⁴ Hitherto ye have asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

²⁷ But a certain fearful apprehension of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

¹⁴ And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: ¹⁵ And if we know that he heareth us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired from him.

¹⁸ They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.

¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.

⁵ He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

⁹ For evil doers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. ¹⁰ For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yes, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

⁹ (58:8)As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun.

¹⁸ Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou didst cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.

²⁷ When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

³⁰ The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

³ A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

⁷ The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

²⁴ Yes, they shall not be planted; yes, they shall not be sown: yes, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.

¹⁸ And I say also to thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

²⁰ And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner-stone;

¹⁹ Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth firm, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

¹³ As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

²⁰ As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre; so is he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.

⁶ He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.

⁵ Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

²⁶ His lord answered and said to him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not strewed:

¹¹ Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

¹² That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

³² It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green. ³³ He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.

¹⁵ Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Who were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood!

⁴ (21:3)For thou hast met him with the blessings of goodness: thou hast set a crown of pure gold on his head.

¹¹ (34:10)The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. ¹² (34:11)Come, ye children, hearken to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. ¹³ (34:12)What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?

²³ (55:22)Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he will sustain thee: he will never suffer the righteous to be moved.

¹⁶ With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

² For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor.

¹¹ For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

¹⁷ Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldst thou die before thy time?

¹¹ As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

²⁰ But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?

¹³ So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the expiration of the breath.

⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

²⁴ Thou wilt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. ²⁵ Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. ²⁶ My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

⁷ When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.

²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried, and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy life-time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they who would pass from hence to you, cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

² By whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

¹² Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing earnest in prayer;

¹³ Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁶ Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, who hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,

³ Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

⁶ For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

⁸ But to them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness; indignation and wrath: ⁹ Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

¹³ I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.

⁸ I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

²⁸ For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. ²⁹ The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

⁵ (52:3)Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

¹ A Song of degrees. They that trust in the LORD, shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.

²¹ For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. ²² But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

²⁵ As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

²⁴ Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given to us for inheritance. ²⁵ Wherefore say to them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes towards your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land? ²⁶ Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbor's wife: and shall ye possess the land?

⁹ The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever. ¹⁰ Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a grievous destruction.

⁴¹ They say to him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their seasons.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. ³⁷ But in all these things we are more than conquerors, through him that loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, ³⁹ Nor hight, nor depth, nor any other creature, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁸ (31:17)Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.

¹¹ (63:10)They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.

³ What shall be given to thee? or what shall be done to thee, thou false tongue? ⁴ Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

¹³ In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

¹² To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

¹¹ By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

⁶ The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

² The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

²⁸ The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes. ⁷ A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. ⁸ The words of a tale-bearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

¹⁰ The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

⁸ Sound speech that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say concerning you.
