²⁴ (Not that we have control over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, for it is by faith that you stand firm.)

⁸ “But you (pl.), do not be called ‘Rabbi’; because your Teacher is one, the Christ, and you are all brothers. ⁹ And do not call anyone on earth your ‘father’; because your Father is one, He who is in the heavens. ¹⁰ Neither be called leaders/guides; because your Leader is one, the Christ.

⁴⁹ and should begin to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards,

¹² —that is, that I may be encouraged among you by our mutual faith, both yours and mine.

² through whom also we have had the access, by the Faith, into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

²⁰ Granted. Because of unbelief they were broken off, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear!

⁵ Who then is Paul, who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord has given to each one?

¹ Now, brothers, I want to add information to the Gospel that I proclaimed to you, that you also received, and in which you stand;

¹ Actually, I determined this within myself, that I would not come again to you in sorrow. ² For if I make you sorrowful, then who will make me glad, besides the one whom I made sorrowful? ³ And I wrote this very thing to you so as not to have sorrow from those who ought to make me rejoice, when I come, having confidence in you all that my joy is also yours.

⁵ Now we do not proclaim ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake;

⁷ —we walk by faith, not by sight—

¹⁴ So stand firm, having belted your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵ and having shod your feet with the readiness of the Gospel of the peace; ¹⁶ above all, having taken up the shield of the faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the malignant one;

²⁵ So having been persuaded of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith, ²⁶ so that your rejoicing over me may be more abundant in Christ Jesus, through my coming to you again.

²⁴ Now a slave of the Lord should not quarrel but be gentle towards all, skillful at teaching, forbearing, ²⁵ correcting courteously those who oppose him, in hopes that God may grant them repentance leading to a real knowledge of Truth ²⁶ and that they may retrieve their senses out of the devil’s snare (having been taken captive by him to do his will).

³ neither as lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

⁸ Be sober, stay alert! Because your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is circling you, looking for someone to devour; ⁹ withstand him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
