¹ Why do you stand far off, Yahweh? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? ² In arrogance, the wicked hunt down the weak. They are caught in the schemes that they devise. ³ For the wicked boasts of his heart’s cravings. He blesses the greedy and condemns Yahweh. ⁴ The wicked, in the pride of his face, has no room in his thoughts for God. ⁵ His ways are prosperous at all times. He is arrogant, and your laws are far from his sight. As for all his adversaries, he sneers at them. ⁶ He says in his heart, “I shall not be shaken. For generations I shall have no trouble.” ⁷ His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and oppression. Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity. ⁸ He lies in wait near the villages. From ambushes, he murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly set against the helpless. ⁹ He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless when he draws him in his net. ¹⁰ The helpless are crushed. They collapse. They fall under his strength. ¹¹ He says in his heart, “God has forgotten. He hides his face. He will never see it.” ¹² Arise, Yahweh! God, lift up your hand! Don’t forget the helpless. ¹³ Why does the wicked person condemn God, and say in his heart, “God won’t call me into account?” ¹⁴ But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless. ¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked. As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none. ¹⁶ Yahweh is King forever and ever! The nations will perish out of his land. ¹⁷ Yahweh, you have heard the desire of the humble. You will prepare their heart. You will cause your ear to hear, ¹⁸ to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may terrify no more.

²⁴ Why do you hide your face, and consider me your enemy?

⁹ He works to the north, but I can’t see him. He turns south, but I can’t catch a glimpse of him.

²⁹ When he gives quietness, who then can condemn? When he hides his face, who then can see him? He is over a nation or a man alike,

How long will you hide your face from me? ² How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day? How long shall my enemy triumph over me? ³ Behold, and answer me, Yahweh, my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;

¹ For the Chief Musician; set to “The Doe of the Morning.” A Psalm by David. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?

⁹ Don’t hide your face from me. Don’t put your servant away in anger. You have been my help. Don’t abandon me, neither forsake me, God of my salvation.

⁷ You, Yahweh, when you favored me, made my mountain stand strong; but when you hid your face, I was troubled.

²⁴ Why do you hide your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

¹ For the Chief Musician. By the sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

¹⁴ Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?

⁸ You hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?

¹⁷ because you still exalt yourself against my people, that you won’t let them go.

¹¹ Now I know that Yahweh is greater than all gods because of the way that they treated people arrogantly.”

¹⁶ The trouble he causes shall return to his own head. His violence shall come down on the crown of his own head.

¹⁵ The nations have sunk down in the pit that they made. In the net which they hid, their own foot is taken. ¹⁶ Yahweh has made himself known. He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his own hands. Meditation. Selah.

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be mute, which speak against the righteous insolently, with pride and contempt.

¹¹ Don’t let the foot of pride come against me. Don’t let the hand of the wicked drive me away.

¹² For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride, for the curses and lies which they utter.

⁵ Oh that my ways were steadfast to obey your statutes!

⁶⁹ The proud have smeared a lie upon me. With my whole heart, I will keep your precepts.

⁸⁵ The proud have dug pits for me, contrary to your law.

¹²² Ensure your servant’s well-being. Don’t let the proud oppress me.

⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah.

²² The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.

¹² Therefore it will happen that when the Lord has performed his whole work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the willful proud heart of the king of Assyria, and the insolence of his arrogant looks. ¹³ For he has said, “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I have understanding. I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures. Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers.

¹³ You said in your heart, “I will ascend into heaven! I will exalt my throne above the stars of God! I will sit on the mountain of assembly, in the far north!

¹⁶ Those who see you will stare at you. They will ponder you, saying, “Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms,

² then Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men spoke, saying to Jeremiah, “You speak falsely. Yahweh our God has not sent you to say, ‘You shall not go into Egypt to live there;’

⁹ The enemy said, ‘I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the plunder. My desire will be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword. My hand will destroy them.’

³⁰ I will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and cast your dead bodies upon the bodies of your idols; and my soul will abhor you.

¹⁹ and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” to destroy the moist with the dry.

¹⁹ Yahweh saw and abhorred, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

²¹ Saul said, “You are blessed by Yahweh; for you have had compassion on me.

²⁴ “If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, ‘You are my confidence;’

⁶ You will destroy those who speak lies. Yahweh abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

²¹ Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me. They said, “Aha! Aha! Our eye has seen it!”

⁶ Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches—

¹¹ Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves. ¹² But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure. He is like the animals that perish. ¹³ This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah.

¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul— and men praise you when you do well for yourself—

¹ For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, “David has come to Ahimelech’s house.” Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man? God’s loving kindness endures continually.

⁸ They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression. ⁹ They have set their mouth in the heavens. Their tongue walks through the earth.

⁴ They pour out arrogant words. All the evildoers boast.

⁴ Those who forsake the law praise the wicked; but those who keep the law contend with them.

⁷ However he doesn’t mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations. ⁸ For he says, “Aren’t all of my princes kings? ⁹ Isn’t Calno like Carchemish? Isn’t Hamath like Arpad? Isn’t Samaria like Damascus?” ¹⁰ As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, whose engraved images exceeded those of Jerusalem and of Samaria; ¹¹ shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?

²³ Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁷ I was angry because of the iniquity of his covetousness and struck him. I hid myself and was angry; and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.

¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression, and for doing violence.”

⁷ A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud. ⁸ Ephraim said, “Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won’t find in me any iniquity that is sin.”

¹⁰ Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and a short ephah that is accursed? ¹¹ Shall I be pure with dishonest scales, and with a bag of deceitful weights? ¹² Her rich men are full of violence, her inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their speech.

⁹ Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil!

⁵ Their buyers slaughter them, and go unpunished. Those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be Yahweh, for I am rich;’ and their own shepherds don’t pity them. ⁶ For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land,” says Yahweh; “but, behold, I will deliver the men everyone into his neighbor’s hand, and into the hand of his king. They will strike the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.” ⁷ So I fed the flock of slaughter, especially the oppressed of the flock. I took for myself two staffs. The one I called “Favor”, and the other I called “Union”, and I fed the flock. ⁸ I cut off the three shepherds in one month; for my soul was weary of them, and their soul also loathed me.

¹⁵ and said, “What are you willing to give me, that I should deliver him to you?” They weighed out for him thirty pieces of silver. ¹⁶ From that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

¹⁵ He said to them, “Beware! Keep yourselves from covetousness, for a man’s life doesn’t consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses.”

¹⁹ I will tell my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.”’

¹⁴ The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him. ¹⁵ He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers,

³² who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom.

⁵ Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God.

⁵ Put to death therefore your members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

⁹ But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation, a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

² For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, not lovers of good, ⁴ traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

¹³ Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.”

¹⁶ But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.

¹⁵ Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.

⁵ Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of man’s heart was continually only evil.

² Pharaoh said, “Who is Yahweh, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I don’t know Yahweh, and moreover I will not let Israel go.”

¹⁴ then your heart might be lifted up, and you forget Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

¹⁷ who said to God, ‘Depart from us;’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’

¹ For the Chief Musician. By David. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt. They have done abominable deeds. There is no one who does good. ² Yahweh looked down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there were any who understood, who sought after God.

²⁷ For you will save the afflicted people, but the arrogant eyes you will bring down.

⁸ When you said, “Seek my face,” my heart said to you, “I will seek your face, Yahweh.”

¹ For the Chief Musician. By David, the servant of Yahweh. A revelation is within my heart about the disobedience of the wicked: “There is no fear of God before his eyes.”

⁵ I will silence whoever secretly slanders his neighbor. I won’t tolerate one who is arrogant and conceited.

¹⁷ arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

⁴ A high look and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

⁹ lest I be full, deny you, and say, ‘Who is Yahweh?’ or lest I be poor, and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

¹³ There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes! Their eyelids are lifted up.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man will be brought low, the arrogance of men will be bowed down, and Yahweh alone will be exalted in that day.

⁹ The look of their faces testify against them. They parade their sin like Sodom. They don’t hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought disaster upon themselves.

⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they hurry to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity. Desolation and destruction are in their paths.

² I have spread out my hands all day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, after their own thoughts;

³¹ Generation, consider Yahweh’s word. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why do my people say, ‘We have broken loose. We will come to you no more’?

¹⁴ Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long will your evil thoughts lodge within you?

²² “You, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, ²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. You have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which don’t see, or hear, or know; and you have not glorified the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways.

³ Seek Yahweh, all you humble of the land, who have kept his ordinances. Seek righteousness. Seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of Yahweh’s anger.

²¹ For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts,

²² Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

²¹ Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.

²⁸ Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

¹² that you were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

¹² God saw the earth, and saw that it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

²⁷ They went out into the field, harvested their vineyards, trod the grapes, celebrated, and went into the house of their god and ate and drank, and cursed Abimelech.

³⁸ Then Zebul said to him, “Now where is your mouth, that you said, ‘Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him?’ Isn’t this the people that you have despised? Please go out now and fight with them.”

⁶ The king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, “The blind and the lame will keep you out of here;” thinking, “David can’t come in here.”

¹⁰ Ben Hadad sent to him, and said, “The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria will be enough for handfuls for all the people who follow me.” ¹¹ The king of Israel answered, “Tell him, ‘Don’t let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.’”

¹³ Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.’”

⁵ “Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says Yahweh; “I will set him in safety from those who malign him.”

⁵ How great are your works, Yahweh! Your thoughts are very deep. ⁶ A senseless man doesn’t know, neither does a fool understand this:

¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.

¹³ who forsake the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness,

¹⁵ who are crooked in their ways, and wayward in their paths,

²⁴ The path of life leads upward for the wise, to keep him from going downward to Sheol.

¹ Don’t be envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them;

¹² The harp, lyre, tambourine, and flute, with wine, are at their feasts; but they don’t respect the work of Yahweh, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.

¹ Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive decrees;

¹¹ Yahweh, your hand is lifted up, yet they don’t see; but they will see your zeal for the people, and be disappointed. Yes, fire will consume your adversaries.

¹⁵ “Because you have said, ‘We have made a covenant with death, and we are in agreement with Sheol. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it won’t come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and we have hidden ourselves under falsehood.’”

²⁵ Therefore he poured the fierceness of his anger on him, and the strength of battle. It set him on fire all around, but he didn’t know. It burned him, but he didn’t take it to heart.”

⁹ They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity. He will punish them for their sins.

⁹ Who is wise, that he may understand these things? Who is prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of Yahweh are right, and the righteous walk in them; But the rebellious stumble in them.

¹⁶ Destruction and misery are in their ways.

¹ For the Chief Musician. By David. In Yahweh, I take refuge. How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?

⁵ he who doesn’t lend out his money for usury, nor take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be shaken.

⁶ As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.”

¹¹ Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

⁷ You said, ‘I will be a princess forever,’ so that you didn’t lay these things to your heart, nor did you remember the results.

¹² “Come,” they say, “I will get wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow will be as today, great beyond measure.”

¹⁰ For entangled like thorns, and drunken as with their drink, they are consumed utterly like dry stubble.

⁴⁸ But if that evil servant should say in his heart, ‘My lord is delaying his coming,’

³ For when they are saying, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman. Then they will in no way escape.

⁷ However much she glorified herself, and grew wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning. For she says in her heart, ‘I sit a queen, and am no widow, and will in no way see mourning.’

³⁵ They conceive mischief, and produce iniquity. Their heart prepares deceit.”

¹² “Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue,

⁹ For there is no faithfulness in their mouth. Their heart is destruction. Their throat is an open tomb. They flatter with their tongue.

¹⁴ Behold, he travails with iniquity. Yes, he has conceived mischief, and brought out falsehood.

² Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart.

³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit. He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

⁶ If he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood. His heart gathers iniquity to itself. When he goes abroad, he tells it.

⁴ You love all devouring words, you deceitful tongue.

²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

³ The wicked go astray from the womb. They are wayward as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

⁴ They fully intend to throw him down from his lofty place. They delight in lies. They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

³ who sharpen their tongue like a sword, and aim their arrows, deadly words,

⁸ They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression.

³ They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper’s poison is under their lips. Selah.

⁹ As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

⁸ whose mouths speak deceit, whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

¹¹ Rescue me, and deliver me out of the hands of foreigners, whose mouths speak deceit, whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

⁶ Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.

⁸ Remove far from me falsehood and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food that is needful for me,

⁴ No one sues in righteousness, and no one pleads in truth. They trust in vanity, and speak lies. They conceive mischief, and give birth to iniquity.

³ “They bend their tongue, as their bow, for falsehood. They have grown strong in the land, but not for truth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they don’t know me,” says Yahweh.

⁶ Your habitation is in the middle of deceit. Through deceit, they refuse to know me,” says Yahweh.

³⁴ You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

¹³ “Their throat is an open tomb. With their tongues they have used deceit.” “The poison of vipers is under their lips.” ¹⁴ “Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”

⁶ And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna. ⁷ For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind; ⁸ but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁸ The king said to Doeg, “Turn and attack the priests!” Doeg the Edomite turned, and he attacked the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five people who wore a linen ephod.

²³ See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides himself, and come again to me with certainty, and I will go with you. It shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”

¹⁶ Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; in addition to his sin with which he made Judah to sin, in doing that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight.

¹¹ They have now surrounded us in our steps. They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.

⁶ They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.

¹¹ If they say, “Come with us. Let’s lay in wait for blood. Let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause. ¹² Let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit.

¹² A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth, ¹³ who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers,

¹⁴ You pierced the heads of his warriors with their own spears. They came as a whirlwind to scatter me, gloating as if to devour the wretched in secret.

¹ Soon afterwards, he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of God’s Kingdom. With him were the twelve,

¹ Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place where he was about to come.

¹⁵ But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.

¹² He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey, as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say, “Yahweh, who is like you, who delivers the poor from him who is too strong for him; yes, the poor and the needy from him who robs him?”

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who are upright on the path.

³ For, behold, they lie in wait for my soul. The mighty gather themselves together against me, not for my disobedience, nor for my sin, Yahweh.

³¹ For he will stand at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those who judge his soul.

³¹ He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

¹⁶ Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.

¹⁵ As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people.

¹⁵ What do you mean that you crush my people, and grind the face of the poor?” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies.

⁷ The ways of the scoundrel are evil. He devises wicked plans to destroy the humble with lying words, even when the needy speaks right.

²⁶ For wicked men are found among my people. They watch, as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap. They catch men.

¹⁰ He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.

³ She brought up one of her cubs. He became a young lion. He learned to catch the prey. He devoured men. ⁴ The nations also heard of him. He was taken in their pit; and they brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt. ⁵ “‘Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her cubs, and made him a young lion. ⁶ He went up and down among the lions. He became a young lion. He learned to catch the prey. He devoured men.

²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression and exercised robbery. Yes, they have troubled the poor and needy, and have oppressed the foreigner wrongfully.

⁶ Yahweh says: “For three transgressions of Israel, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals; ⁷ They trample on the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and deny justice to the oppressed; and a man and his father use the same maiden, to profane my holy name;

⁴ Will a lion roar in the thicket, when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing?

¹¹ Therefore, because you trample on the poor, and take taxes from him of wheat: You have built houses of cut stone, but you will not dwell in them. You have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine. ¹² For I know how many are your offenses, and how great are your sins— you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn away the needy in the courts.

² The godly man has perished out of the earth, and there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; every man hunts his brother with a net.

¹¹ Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, the lion’s cubs, and no one made them afraid? ¹² The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with the kill, and his dens with prey.

¹⁵ He takes up all of them with the hook. He catches them in his net, and gathers them in his dragnet. Therefore he rejoices and is glad.

³ A voice of the wailing of the shepherds! For their glory is destroyed: a voice of the roaring of young lions! For the pride of the Jordan is ruined.

¹² He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who doesn’t own the sheep, sees the wolf coming, leaves the sheep, and flees. The wolf snatches the sheep, and scatters them.

²¹ Therefore don’t yield to them, for more than forty men lie in wait for him, who have bound themselves under a curse to neither eat nor drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready, looking for the promise from you.”

³⁶ It will happen that everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and will say, “Please put me into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread.”’”

²¹ Saul said, I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Therefore Saul said to David, “You shall today be my son-in-law a second time.” ²² Saul commanded his servants, “Talk with David secretly, and say, ‘Behold, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore be the king’s son-in-law.’” ²³ Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. David said, “Does it seem to you a light thing to be the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man, and little known?” ²⁴ The servants of Saul told him, saying, “David spoke like this.” ²⁵ Saul said, “Tell David, ‘The king desires no dowry except one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies.’” Now Saul thought he would make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. ²⁶ When his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law. Before the deadline,

²¹ Saul said, “You are blessed by Yahweh; for you have had compassion on me. ²² Please go make yet more sure, and know and see his place where his haunt is, and who has seen him there; for I have been told that he is very cunning.

⁵ It was so, that when any man came near to bow down to him, he stretched out his hand, and took hold of him, and kissed him.

¹³ You say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’

⁶ He says in his heart, “I shall not be shaken. For generations I shall have no trouble.”

⁵ They encourage themselves in evil plans. They talk about laying snares secretly. They say, “Who will see them?”

¹¹ They say, “How does God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?”

⁷ They say, “Yah will not see, neither will Jacob’s God consider.”

¹² Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in his rooms of imagery? For they say, ‘Yahweh doesn’t see us. Yahweh has forsaken the land.’”

⁹ Then he said to me, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perversion; for they say, ‘Yahweh has forsaken the land, and Yahweh doesn’t see.’

⁶ But there were some of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.”

⁷ Arise, Yahweh! Save me, my God! For you have struck all of my enemies on the cheek bone. You have broken the teeth of the wicked.

⁶ Arise, Yahweh, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries. Awake for me. You have commanded judgment.

¹² For he who avenges blood remembers them. He doesn’t forget the cry of the afflicted.

¹⁹ Arise, Yahweh! Don’t let man prevail. Let the nations be judged in your sight.

¹ For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. How long, Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

⁷ Show your marvelous loving kindness, you who save those who take refuge by your right hand from their enemies.

⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he, in anger, withheld his compassion?” Selah.

² Rise up, you judge of the earth. Pay back the proud what they deserve.

¹⁰ “Now I will arise,” says Yahweh. “Now I will lift myself up. Now I will be exalted.

⁹ Let your hand be lifted up above your adversaries, and let all of your enemies be cut off.

⁵ I will surely require accounting for your life’s blood. At the hand of every animal I will require it. At the hand of man, even at the hand of every man’s brother, I will require the life of man.

²² Reuben answered them, saying, “Didn’t I tell you, saying, ‘Don’t sin against the child,’ and you wouldn’t listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.”

²⁰ but a whole month, until it comes out at your nostrils, and it is loathsome to you; because you have rejected Yahweh who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, “Why did we come out of Egypt?”’”

⁹ Why have you despised Yahweh’s word, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’

²² Thus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, “May Yahweh look at it, and repay it.”

¹⁰ How long, God, shall the adversary reproach? Shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever?

¹⁸ Remember this, that the enemy has mocked you, Yahweh. Foolish people have blasphemed your name.

¹⁶ Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me. Whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

⁸ Therefore he who rejects this doesn’t reject man, but God, who has also given his Holy Spirit to you.

¹⁸ He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner in giving him food and clothing.

⁷ Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their big toes cut off, scavenged under my table. As I have done, so God has done to me.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

²⁶ ‘Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons,’ says Yahweh; ‘and I will repay you in this plot of ground,’ says Yahweh. Now therefore take and cast him onto the plot of ground, according to Yahweh’s word.”

²³ then hear from heaven, act, and judge your servants, bringing retribution to the wicked, to bring his way on his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

¹¹ Don’t be far from me, for trouble is near. For there is no one to help.

²² You have seen it, Yahweh. Don’t keep silent. Lord, don’t be far from me.

²² Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

⁵ A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

⁹ Yahweh preserves the foreigners. He upholds the fatherless and widow, but he turns the way of the wicked upside down.

³ Yahweh’s eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

³ What will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? Where will you leave your wealth?

¹⁷ For my eyes are on all their ways. They are not hidden from my face. Their iniquity isn’t concealed from my eyes.

²⁴ Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I can’t see him?” says Yahweh. “Don’t I fill heaven and earth?” says Yahweh.

¹¹ Leave your fatherless children. I will preserve them alive. Let your widows trust in me.”

⁵⁶ For the destroyer has come on her, even on Babylon. Her mighty men are taken. Their bows are broken in pieces, for Yahweh is a God of retribution. He will surely repay.

³ Assyria can’t save us. We won’t ride on horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, ‘Our gods!’ for in you the fatherless finds mercy.”

⁴ “Yes, and what are you to me, Tyre, and Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Will you repay me? And if you repay me, I will swiftly and speedily return your repayment on your own head.

¹³ You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously, and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he,

¹² For this cause I also suffer these things. Yet I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day.

¹³ There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him to whom we must give an account.

¹⁹ Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.

⁷ casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

¹² therefore Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Behold, I bring such evil on Jerusalem and Judah that whoever hears of it, both his ears will tingle. ¹³ I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of Ahab’s house; and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. ¹⁴ I will cast off the remnant of my inheritance, and deliver them into the hands of their enemies. They will become a prey and a plunder to all their enemies, ¹⁵ because they have done that which is evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came out of Egypt, even to this day.’”

¹⁵ From the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.

⁹ Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; their minds and hearts are searched by the righteous God.

¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but Yahweh upholds the righteous.

³⁴ Also the blood of the souls of the innocent poor is found in your skirts. You didn’t find them breaking in, but it is because of all these things.

⁴⁸ “‘Thus I will cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to be lewd like you.

²¹ “Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Behold, it has not been bound up, to apply medicines, to put a bandage to bind it, that it become strong to hold the sword. ²² Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong arm, and that which was broken. I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.

¹² It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, “Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil.”

¹⁷ Woe to the worthless shepherd who leaves the flock! The sword will be on his arm, and on his right eye. His arm will be completely withered, and his right eye will be totally blinded!”

²⁰ As the nations that Yahweh makes to perish before you, so you shall perish, because you wouldn’t listen to Yahweh your God’s voice.

⁵ You have rebuked the nations. You have destroyed the wicked. You have blotted out their name forever and ever.

¹⁵ The nations have sunk down in the pit that they made. In the net which they hid, their own foot is taken.

⁴³ You have delivered me from the strivings of the people. You have made me the head of the nations. A people whom I have not known shall serve me. ⁴⁴ As soon as they hear of me they shall obey me. The foreigners shall submit themselves to me. ⁴⁵ The foreigners shall fade away, and shall come trembling out of their strongholds.

¹⁰ Yahweh sat enthroned at the Flood. Yes, Yahweh sits as King forever.

² You drove out the nations with your hand, but you planted them. You afflicted the peoples, but you spread them abroad. ³ For they didn’t get the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, because you were favorable to them.

⁵⁵ He also drove out the nations before them, allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

¹ Yahweh reigns! He is clothed with majesty! Yahweh is armed with strength. The world also is established. It can’t be moved.

¹³ Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. Your dominion endures throughout all generations. Yahweh is faithful in all his words, and loving in all his deeds.

¹⁰ Yahweh will reign forever; your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise Yah!

²² For Yahweh is our judge. Yahweh is our lawgiver. Yahweh is our king. He will save us.

¹⁰ But Yahweh is the true God. He is the living God, and an everlasting King. At his wrath, the earth trembles. The nations aren’t able to withstand his indignation.

¹⁹ You, Yahweh, remain forever. Your throne is from generation to generation.

³⁴ At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him who lives forever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.

²⁶ “I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; “for he is the living God, and steadfast forever. His kingdom is that which will not be destroyed. His dominion will be even to the end.

¹⁷ Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

¹⁵ which in its own times he will show, who is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. ¹⁶ He alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

¹⁸ Yahweh, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this desire forever in the thoughts of the heart of your people, and prepare their heart for you;

³⁶ Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced, because of that which God had prepared for the people; for the thing was done suddenly.

¹² Also the hand of God came on Judah to give them one heart, to do the commandment of the king and of the princes by Yahweh’s word.

¹² When he was in distress, he begged Yahweh his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ He prayed to him; and he was entreated by him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Yahweh was God.

²⁷ because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me, I also have heard you,” says Yahweh.

¹⁸ For the needy shall not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever.

¹⁵ Yahweh’s eyes are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry.

⁴ Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

¹⁷ He has responded to the prayer of the destitute, and has not despised their prayer.

⁷ He will not be afraid of evil news. His heart is steadfast, trusting in Yahweh. ⁸ His heart is established. He will not be afraid in the end when he sees his adversaries.

¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him. He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

²⁴ What the wicked fear, will overtake them, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.

⁸ The sacrifice made by the wicked is an abomination to Yahweh, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

¹ The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from Yahweh.

²⁴ It will happen that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

³ “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

¹³ But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

²⁴ When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, “O Lord, you are God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them; ²⁵ who by the mouth of your servant, David, said, ‘Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing? ²⁶ The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take council together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.’ ²⁷ “For truly, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together against your holy servant, Jesus, whom you anointed, ²⁸ to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen. ²⁹ Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, ³⁰ while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus.” ³¹ When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

⁵ Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for him. ⁶ The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison. ⁷ And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, “Stand up quickly!” His chains fell off his hands. ⁸ The angel said to him, “Get dressed and put on your sandals.” He did so. He said to him, “Put on your cloak and follow me.” ⁹ And he went out and followed him. He didn’t know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision. ¹⁰ When they were past the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went out, and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. ¹¹ When Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting.” ¹² Thinking about that, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was called Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying. ¹³ When Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer. ¹⁴ When she recognized Peter’s voice, she didn’t open the gate for joy, but ran in, and reported that Peter was standing in front of the gate. ¹⁵ They said to her, “You are crazy!” But she insisted that it was so. They said, “It is his angel.” ¹⁶ But Peter continued knocking. When they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed. ¹⁷ But he, beckoning to them with his hand to be silent, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. He said, “Tell these things to James and to the brothers.” Then he departed and went to another place. ¹⁸ Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter. ¹⁹ When Herod had sought for him, and didn’t find him, he examined the guards, then commanded that they should be put to death. He went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there.

²⁶ In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.

¹⁸ For through him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.

¹² In him we have boldness and access in confidence through our faith in him.

¹⁶ Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

⁶ But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

¹² For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

⁵ Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

⁹ Yahweh will also be a high tower for the oppressed; a high tower in times of trouble.

¹⁴ But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.

¹⁴ from men by your hand, Yahweh, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. Your sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

⁴ He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces.

²¹ Don’t let the oppressed return ashamed. Let the poor and needy praise your name.

³ “Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.

¹ Yahweh, you God to whom vengeance belongs, you God to whom vengeance belongs, shine out. ² Rise up, you judge of the earth. Pay back the proud what they deserve. ³ Yahweh, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph? ⁴ They pour out arrogant words. All the evildoers boast. ⁵ They break your people in pieces, Yahweh, and afflict your heritage. ⁶ They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.

⁴ but he will judge the poor with righteousness, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

²⁵ “But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in the same way, bad things. But here he is now comforted, and you are in anguish.

⁷ Won’t God avenge his chosen ones who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them? ⁸ I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

⁴⁷ The first man is of the earth, made of dust. The second man is the Lord from heaven. ⁴⁸ As is the one made of dust, such are those who are also made of dust; and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

¹⁸ For many walk, of whom I told you often, and now tell you even weeping, as the enemies of the cross of Christ, ¹⁹ whose end is destruction, whose god is the belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who think about earthly things.
