¹ “Behold, my eye has seen all this. My ear has heard and understood it. ² What you know, I know also. I am not inferior to you. ³ “Surely I would speak to the Almighty. I desire to reason with God. ⁴ But you are forgers of lies. You are all physicians of no value. ⁵ Oh that you would be completely silent! Then you would be wise. ⁶ Hear now my reasoning. Listen to the pleadings of my lips. ⁷ Will you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him? ⁸ Will you show partiality to him? Your defenses are defenses of clay. ¹³ “Be silent! Leave me alone, that I may speak. Let come on me what will. ¹⁴ Why should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand? ¹⁵ Behold, he will kill me. I have no hope. Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him. ¹⁶ This also will be my salvation, that a godless man will not come before him. ¹⁷ Listen carefully to my speech. Let my declaration be in your ears. ¹⁸ See now, I have set my cause in order. I know that I am righteous. ¹⁹ Who is he who will contend with me? For then would I hold my peace and give up the spirit. ²⁰ “Only don’t do two things to me, then I will not hide myself from your face: ²¹ withdraw your hand far from me, and don’t let your terror make me afraid. ²² Then call, and I will answer, or let me speak, and you answer me. ²³ How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me know my disobedience and my sin. ²⁴ Why do you hide your face, and consider me your enemy? ²⁵ Will you harass a driven leaf? Will you pursue the dry stubble? ²⁶ For you write bitter things against me, and make me inherit the iniquities of my youth: ²⁷ You also put my feet in the stocks, and mark all my paths. You set a bound to the soles of my feet, ²⁸ though I am decaying like a rotten thing, like a garment that is moth-eaten.

¹² “Now a thing was secretly brought to me. My ear received a whisper of it.

⁹ who does great things that can’t be fathomed, marvelous things without number; ¹⁰ who gives rain on the earth, and sends waters on the fields; ¹¹ so that he sets up on high those who are low, those who mourn are exalted to safety. ¹² He frustrates the plans of the crafty, So that their hands can’t perform their enterprise. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness; the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night. ¹⁵ But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.

²⁷ Look at this. We have searched it. It is so. Hear it, and know it for your good.”

⁸ “Please inquire of past generations. Find out about the learning of their fathers. ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow.) ¹⁰ Shall they not teach you, tell you, and utter words out of their heart?

⁹ Who doesn’t know that in all these, Yahweh’s hand has done this, ¹⁰ in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind? ¹¹ Doesn’t the ear try words, even as the palate tastes its food? ¹² With aged men is wisdom, in length of days understanding. ¹³ “With God is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it can’t be built again. He imprisons a man, and there can be no release. ¹⁵ Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up. Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his. ¹⁷ He leads counselors away stripped. He makes judges fools. ¹⁸ He loosens the bond of kings. He binds their waist with a belt. ¹⁹ He leads priests away stripped, and overthrows the mighty. ²⁰ He removes the speech of those who are trusted, and takes away the understanding of the elders. ²¹ He pours contempt on princes, and loosens the belt of the strong. ²² He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increases the nations, and he destroys them. He enlarges the nations, and he leads them captive. ²⁴ He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light. He makes them stagger like a drunken man.

¹⁷ “I will show you, listen to me; that which I have seen I will declare ¹⁸ (which wise men have told by their fathers, and have not hidden it;

³ You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’ therefore I have uttered that which I didn’t understand, things too wonderful for me, which I didn’t know. ⁴ You said, ‘Listen, now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you will answer me.’ ⁵ I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you. ⁶ Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”

³ Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of Yahweh, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.

³ that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us. Yes, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Yes, who doesn’t know such things as these?

⁸ Have you heard the secret counsel of God? Do you limit wisdom to yourself? ⁹ What do you know that we don’t know? What do you understand which is not in us?

³⁵ ‘Job speaks without knowledge. His words are without wisdom.’

¹⁶ therefore Job opens his mouth with empty talk, and he multiplies words without knowledge.”

² Hear, oh, hear the noise of his voice, the sound that goes out of his mouth.

⁴ “Behold, I am of small account. What will I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. ⁵ I have spoken once, and I will not answer; Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further.”

⁷ It was so, that after Yahweh had spoken these words to Job, Yahweh said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.

¹ Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. ² But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he doesn’t yet know as he ought to know.

⁴ For if he who comes preaches another Jesus, whom we didn’t preach, or if you receive a different spirit, which you didn’t receive, or a different “good news”, which you didn’t accept, you put up with that well enough. ⁵ For I reckon that I am not at all behind the very best apostles.

¹⁶ I say again, let no one think me foolish. But if so, yet receive me as foolish, that I also may boast a little. ¹⁷ That which I speak, I don’t speak according to the Lord, but as in foolishness, in this confidence of boasting. ¹⁸ Seeing that many boast after the flesh, I will also boast.

¹¹ I have become foolish in boasting. You compelled me, for I ought to have been commended by you, for I am in no way inferior to the very best apostles, though I am nothing.

³ If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.

¹⁴ How much less will I answer him, And choose my words to argue with him? ¹⁵ Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn’t answer him. I would make supplication to my judge.

³⁴ Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid; ³⁵ then I would speak, and not fear him, for I am not so in myself.

⁵ But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you,

¹⁵ Behold, he will kill me. I have no hope. Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him.

²² Then call, and I will answer, or let me speak, and you answer me.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat! ⁴ I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would tell me. ⁶ Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No, but he would listen to me. ⁷ There the upright might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my judge.

³⁵ oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my signature! Let the Almighty answer me! Let the accuser write my indictment!

¹⁸ “Come now, and let’s reason together,” says Yahweh: “Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. ¹⁹ If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land; ²⁰ but if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it.”

²¹ Produce your cause,” says Yahweh. “Bring out your strong reasons!” says the King of Jacob.

¹ You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would like to reason the cause with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously? ² You have planted them. Yes, they have taken root. They grow. Yes, they produce fruit. You are near in their mouth, and far from their heart.

² Hear, you mountains, Yahweh’s controversy, and you enduring foundations of the earth; for Yahweh has a controversy with his people, and he will contend with Israel.

¹⁶ “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

⁷ “Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off? ⁸ According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same. ⁹ By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed. ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perishes for lack of prey. The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.

¹ “Call now; is there any who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn? ² For resentment kills the foolish man, and jealousy kills the simple. ³ I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety. They are crushed in the gate. Neither is there any to deliver them, ⁵ whose harvest the hungry eats up, and take it even out of the thorns. The snare gapes for their substance.

²¹ For now you are nothing. You see a terror, and are afraid.

³ Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness? ⁴ If your children have sinned against him, he has delivered them into the hand of their disobedience.

² “I have heard many such things. You are all miserable comforters!

⁵ “Yes, the light of the wicked will be put out. The spark of his fire won’t shine. ⁶ The light will be dark in his tent. His lamp above him will be put out. ⁷ The steps of his strength will be shortened. His own counsel will cast him down. ⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he wanders into its mesh. ⁹ A snare will take him by the heel. A trap will catch him. ¹⁰ A noose is hidden for him in the ground, a trap for him on the path. ¹¹ Terrors will make him afraid on every side, and will chase him at his heels. ¹² His strength will be famished. Calamity will be ready at his side. ¹³ The members of his body will be devoured. The firstborn of death will devour his members. ¹⁴ He will be rooted out of the security of his tent. He will be brought to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ There will dwell in his tent that which is none of his. Sulfur will be scattered on his habitation. ¹⁶ His roots will be dried up beneath. His branch will be cut off above. ¹⁷ His memory will perish from the earth. He will have no name in the street. ¹⁸ He will be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He will have neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any remaining where he lived. ²⁰ Those who come after will be astonished at his day, as those who went before were frightened. ²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the unrighteous. This is the place of him who doesn’t know God.”

²⁷ “Behold, I know your thoughts, the plans with which you would wrong me. ²⁸ For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’ ²⁹ Haven’t you asked wayfaring men? Don’t you know their evidences, ³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, That they are led out to the day of wrath? ³¹ Who will declare his way to his face? Who will repay him what he has done? ³² Yet he will be borne to the grave. Men will keep watch over the tomb. ³³ The clods of the valley will be sweet to him. All men will draw after him, as there were innumerable before him. ³⁴ So how can you comfort me with nonsense, because in your answers there remains only falsehood?”

⁶ For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are around you. Sudden fear troubles you, ¹¹ or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you. ¹² “Isn’t God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ You say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’ ¹⁵ Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden, ¹⁶ who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream, ¹⁷ who said to God, ‘Depart from us;’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’ ¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous see it, and are glad. The innocent ridicule them, ²⁰ saying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed their remnant.’ ²¹ “Acquaint yourself with him, now, and be at peace. By it, good will come to you. ²² Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. ²³ If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents. ²⁴ Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ The Almighty will be your treasure, and precious silver to you. ²⁶ For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and will lift up your face to God. ²⁷ You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You will pay your vows. ²⁸ You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you. Light will shine on your ways. ²⁹ When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person. ³⁰ He will even deliver him who is not innocent. Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”

⁶⁹ The proud have smeared a lie upon me. With my whole heart, I will keep your precepts.

¹⁴ They have healed also the hurt of my people superficially, saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ when there is no peace.

²² Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then isn’t the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

³² Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams,” says Yahweh, “who tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their vain boasting; yet I didn’t send them or command them. They don’t profit this people at all,” says Yahweh.

¹³ There is no one to plead your cause, that you may be bound up. You have no healing medicines.

¹¹ Go up into Gilead, and take balm, virgin daughter of Egypt. You use many medicines in vain. There is no healing for you.

⁴ You haven’t strengthened the diseased. You haven’t healed that which was sick. You haven’t bound up that which was broken. You haven’t brought back that which was driven away. You haven’t sought that which was lost, but you have ruled over them with force and with rigor.

¹³ “When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to king Jareb: but he is not able to heal you, neither will he cure you of your wound.

¹⁷ When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

²⁶ and had suffered many things by many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better, but rather grew worse,

³ Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, will no man make you ashamed?

¹³ “Be silent! Leave me alone, that I may speak. Let come on me what will.

³ Shall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?

² “How long will you hunt for words? Consider, and afterwards we will speak.

² “How long will you torment me, and crush me with words?

² “Listen diligently to my speech. Let this be your consolation. ³ Allow me, and I also will speak; After I have spoken, mock on.

¹ So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

²⁸ Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.

³ For as a dream comes with a multitude of cares, so a fool’s speech with a multitude of words.

¹³ Therefore a prudent person keeps silent in such a time, for it is an evil time.

¹⁹ So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

⁷ When they told it to Jotham, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim and lifted up his voice, cried out, and said to them, “Listen to me, you men of Shechem, that God may listen to you.

¹ “However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words. ² See now, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth. ³ My words will utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they will speak sincerely.

² “Hear my words, you wise men. Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.

⁶ Hear, for I will speak excellent things. The opening of my lips is for right things. ⁷ For my mouth speaks truth. Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

⁷ “Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?

² “Shouldn’t the multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be justified? ³ Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, will no man make you ashamed? ⁴ For you say, ‘My doctrine is pure. I am clean in your eyes.’

⁵ He who denounces his friends for plunder, Even the eyes of his children will fail.

⁴ surely my lips will not speak unrighteousness, neither will my tongue utter deceit.

²¹ Please don’t let me respect any man’s person, neither will I give flattering titles to any man. ²² For I don’t know how to give flattering titles, or else my Maker would soon take me away.

⁴ For truly my words are not false. One who is perfect in knowledge is with you.

² They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time comes that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.

⁵ But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what will we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicts wrath? I speak like men do. ⁶ May it never be! For then how will God judge the world? ⁷ For if the truth of God through my lie abounded to his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? ⁸ Why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), “Let’s do evil, that good may come?” Those who say so are justly condemned.

² But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

² “You shall not follow a crowd to do evil. You shall not testify in court to side with a multitude to pervert justice. ³ You shall not favor a poor man in his cause.

¹⁵ “‘You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor show favoritism to the great; but you shall judge your neighbor in righteousness.

²¹ Please don’t let me respect any man’s person, neither will I give flattering titles to any man.

¹⁹ He doesn’t respect the persons of princes, nor respect the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands.

²³ These also are sayings of the wise. To show partiality in judgment is not good.

⁹ “Therefore I have also made you contemptible and wicked before all the people, according to the way you have not kept my ways, but have had respect for persons in the law.

¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his.

² Surely there are mockers with me. My eye dwells on their provocation.

³⁶ I wish that Job were tried to the end, because of his answering like wicked men.

²¹ won’t God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

²³ Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts.

²² Now therefore don’t be scoffers, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, on the whole earth.

¹⁰ “I, Yahweh, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”

⁷ Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. ⁸ For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

⁷ It was so, that after Yahweh had spoken these words to Job, Yahweh said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has. ⁸ Now therefore, take to yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept him, that I not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.”

²¹ You have done these things, and I kept silent. You thought that I was just like you. I will rebuke you, and accuse you in front of your eyes. ²² “Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you into pieces, and there be no one to deliver.

² “How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked?” Selah.

⁹ But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.

¹⁶ Terror and dread falls on them. By the greatness of your arm they are as still as a stone, until your people pass over, Yahweh, until the people you have purchased pass over.

²¹ withdraw your hand far from me, and don’t let your terror make me afraid.

²³ For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because of his majesty, I can do nothing.

¹²⁰ My flesh trembles for fear of you. I am afraid of your judgments.

¹³ Yahweh of Armies is who you must respect as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread.

²² Don’t you fear me?’ says Yahweh ‘Won’t you tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it can’t pass it? Though its waves toss themselves, yet they can’t prevail. Though they roar, they still can’t pass over it.’

¹⁰ But Yahweh is the true God. He is the living God, and an everlasting King. At his wrath, the earth trembles. The nations aren’t able to withstand his indignation.

²⁸ Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

³ They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God, the Almighty! Righteous and true are your ways, you King of the nations. ⁴ Who wouldn’t fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you only are holy. For all the nations will come and worship before you. For your righteous acts have been revealed.”

⁷ Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

²⁷ Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, although I am dust and ashes.

¹⁴ Yahweh said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sky.”

¹⁹ How much more, those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!

¹⁷ His memory will perish from the earth. He will have no name in the street.

¹⁶ Yahweh’s face is against those who do evil, to cut off their memory from the earth.

¹² But you, Yahweh, will remain forever; your renown endures to all generations.

¹⁵ Let them be before Yahweh continually, that he may cut off their memory from the earth;

⁷ The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.

¹⁴ The dead shall not live. The departed spirits shall not rise. Therefore you have visited and destroyed them, and caused all memory of them to perish.

¹ For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.

⁹ even that it would please God to crush me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off! ¹⁰ Let it still be my consolation, yes, let me exult in pain that doesn’t spare, that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

¹¹ “Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁵ so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones. ¹⁶ I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.

¹ “My soul is weary of my life. I will give free course to my complaint. I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

⁵ Oh that you would be completely silent! Then you would be wise.

³ Allow me, and I also will speak; After I have spoken, mock on.

³ When I saw that you didn’t save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me today, to fight against me?”

⁵ for he put his life in his hand, and struck the Philistine, and Yahweh worked a great victory for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?”

²¹ The woman came to Saul, and saw that he was very troubled, and said to him, “Behold, your servant has listened to your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have listened to your words which you spoke to me.

⁴ You who tear yourself in your anger, will the earth be forsaken for you? Or will the rock be removed out of its place?

¹⁰⁹ My soul is continually in my hand, yet I won’t forget your law.

⁵ The fool folds his hands together and ruins himself.

²⁰ One will devour on the right hand, and be hungry; and he will eat on the left hand, and they will not be satisfied. Everyone will eat the flesh of his own arm:

²⁶ I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh; and they will be drunk on their own blood, as with sweet wine. Then all flesh shall know that I, Yahweh, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.

⁷ Although you know that I am not wicked, there is no one who can deliver out of your hand.

¹⁸ See now, I have set my cause in order. I know that I am righteous.

¹⁷ although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.

²¹ that he would maintain the right of a man with God, of a son of man with his neighbor!

²⁵ But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives. In the end, he will stand upon the earth. ²⁶ After my skin is destroyed, then I will see God in my flesh, ²⁷ whom I, even I, will see on my side. My eyes will see, and not as a stranger. “My heart is consumed within me. ²⁸ If you say, ‘How we will persecute him!’ because the root of the matter is found in me,

¹⁰ But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I will come out like gold.

⁵ Far be it from me that I should justify you. Until I die I will not put away my integrity from me.

³¹ if the men of my tent have not said, ‘Who can find one who has not been filled with his meat?’ ³² (the foreigner has not camped in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler); ³³ if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart, ³⁴ because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and didn’t go out of the door— ³⁵ oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my signature! Let the Almighty answer me! Let the accuser write my indictment! ³⁶ Surely I would carry it on my shoulder; and I would bind it to me as a crown. ³⁷ I would declare to him the number of my steps. as a prince would I go near to him.

² “Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”

⁸ Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

⁴ Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

³² The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.

³⁸ For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, ³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²⁰ because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

² Yah is my strength and song. He has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

¹³ So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man will perish,

⁸ For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty, and call on God at all times?

¹³ “But those who are godless in heart lay up anger. They don’t cry for help when he binds them.

¹ By David. Yahweh is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

⁶ He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress. I will not be shaken. ⁷ My salvation and my honor is with God. The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

¹⁴ Yah is my strength and song. He has become my salvation.

²¹ I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me, and have become my salvation.

¹ In that day you will say, “I will give thanks to you, Yahweh; for though you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you comfort me. ² Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust, and will not be afraid; for Yah, Yahweh, is my strength and song; and he has become my salvation.”

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid. Trembling has seized the godless ones. Who among us can live with the devouring fire? Who among us can live with everlasting burning?

²³ Truly help from the hills, the tumult on the mountains, is in vain. Truly the salvation of Israel is in Yahweh our God.

⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’”

⁶ Hear now my reasoning. Listen to the pleadings of my lips.

² “Listen diligently to my speech. Let this be your consolation.

¹ “However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words.

² “Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God? ³ If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.

²⁰ Though I am righteous, my own mouth will condemn me. Though I am blameless, it will prove me perverse.

⁴ I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

⁷ “Now brace yourself like a man. I will question you, and you will answer me. ⁸ Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

²⁶ Put me in remembrance. Let us plead together. Declare your case, that you may be justified.

³³ Who could bring a charge against God’s chosen ones? It is God who justifies. ³⁴ Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

¹² For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁸ “‘Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether, yet you destroy me.

⁵ If indeed you will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach,

⁵ If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand up. ⁶ Behold, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay. ⁷ Behold, my terror will not make you afraid, neither will my pressure be heavy on you.

³² If you have anything to say, answer me. Speak, for I desire to justify you.

⁷ For the Lord Yahweh will help me. Therefore I have not been confounded. Therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I won’t be disappointed. ⁸ He who justifies me is near. Who will bring charges against me? Let us stand up together. Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me.

⁹ If I say, I will not make mention of him, or speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones. I am weary with holding it in. I can’t.

³³ Who could bring a charge against God’s chosen ones? It is God who justifies.

⁸ They heard Yahweh God’s voice walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden. ⁹ Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” ¹⁰ The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; so I hid myself.”

¹² even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you.

¹⁵ The kings of the earth, the princes, the commanding officers, the rich, the strong, and every slave and free person, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains. ¹⁶ They told the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb,

³⁴ Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid;

²⁰ Aren’t my days few? Stop! Leave me alone, that I may find a little comfort,

¹¹ Shall not his majesty make you afraid, and his dread fall on you?

¹⁵ Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden, ¹⁶ who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream, ¹⁷ who said to God, ‘Depart from us;’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’

⁷ Behold, my terror will not make you afraid, neither will my pressure be heavy on you.

¹⁰ Remove your scourge away from me. I am overcome by the blow of your hand.

¹⁶ If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.

¹⁵ You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire for the work of your hands.

³ Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me!

⁵ Isn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities.

⁸ If they are bound in fetters, and are taken in the cords of afflictions, ⁹ then he shows them their work, and their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly.

²⁰ If we have forgotten the name of our God, or spread out our hands to a strange god, ²¹ won’t God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

²⁰ He said, “I will hide my face from them. I will see what their end will be; for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.

¹⁶ Samuel said, “Why then do you ask me, since Yahweh has departed from you and has become your adversary?

² I will tell God, ‘Do not condemn me. Show me why you contend with me.

⁹ He has torn me in his wrath and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me.

¹¹ He has also kindled his wrath against me. He counts me among his adversaries.

² “Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me; ³ when his lamp shone on my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,

²¹ You have turned to be cruel to me. With the might of your hand you persecute me.

¹⁰ Behold, he finds occasions against me. He counts me for his enemy.

¹ Why do you stand far off, Yahweh? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

¹ For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. How long, Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

²⁴ Why do you hide your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

⁶ I remember my song in the night. I consider in my own heart; my spirit diligently inquires: ⁷ “Will the Lord reject us forever? Will he be favorable no more? ⁸ Has his loving kindness vanished forever? Does his promise fail for generations? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he, in anger, withheld his compassion?” Selah.

¹⁴ Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?

¹⁷ I will wait for Yahweh, who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

⁵ The Lord has become as an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces. He has destroyed his strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation in the daughter of Judah.

¹⁵ Don’t count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

³⁶ “‘As for those of you who are left, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a driven leaf will put them to flight; and they shall flee, as one flees from the sword. They will fall when no one pursues.

¹⁴ Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?

³ Do you open your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with you?

¹⁸ How often is it that they are as stubble before the wind, as chaff that the storm carries away?

¹³ The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters: but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far off, and will be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm.

²⁰ He won’t break a bruised reed. He won’t quench a smoking flax, until he leads justice to victory.

²⁰ She said to them, “Don’t call me Naomi. Call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.

²⁰ “Why is light given to him who is in misery, life to the bitter in soul,

¹¹ His bones are full of his youth, but youth will lie down with him in the dust.

⁷ Don’t remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions. Remember me according to your loving kindness, for your goodness’ sake, Yahweh.

³ For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol. ⁴ I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help, ⁵ set apart among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand. ⁶ You have laid me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. ⁷ Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah. ⁸ You have taken my friends from me. You have made me an abomination to them. I am confined, and I can’t escape. ⁹ My eyes are dim from grief. I have called on you daily, Yahweh. I have spread out my hands to you. ¹⁰ Do you show wonders to the dead? Do the departed spirits rise up and praise you? Selah. ¹¹ Is your loving kindness declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in Destruction? ¹² Are your wonders made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? ¹³ But to you, Yahweh, I have cried. In the morning, my prayer comes before you. ¹⁴ Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me? ¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted. ¹⁶ Your fierce wrath has gone over me. Your terrors have cut me off. ¹⁷ They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me. ¹⁸ You have put lover and friend far from me, and my friends into darkness.

¹¹ You will groan at your latter end, when your flesh and your body are consumed, ¹² and say, “How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!

¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned. I repented. After that I was instructed. I struck my thigh. I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.’

⁵ A certain man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. His disease was exceedingly great: yet in his disease he didn’t seek Yahweh, but just the physicians.

⁷ So Satan went out from the presence of Yahweh, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head.

⁶ that you inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin?

¹⁶ But now you count my steps. Don’t you watch over my sin?

¹¹ He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.’

²² He followed her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, as a fool stepping into a noose.

²⁴ who, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison, and secured their feet in the stocks.

¹² Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb.”

¹⁷ In the night season my bones are pierced in me, and the pains that gnaw me take no rest. ¹⁸ My garment is disfigured by great force. It binds me about as the collar of my tunic. ¹⁹ He has cast me into the mire. I have become like dust and ashes.

²⁹ I am a brother to jackals, and a companion to ostriches. ³⁰ My skin grows black and peels from me. My bones are burned with heat.

¹¹ When you rebuke and correct man for iniquity, you consume his wealth like a moth. Surely every man is but a breath.” Selah.

¹² Therefore I am to Ephraim like a moth, and to the house of Judah like rottenness.
