¹⁶ When I tried to understand this, it was too painful for me,

⁶ Your righteousness is like the great mountains; your judgments are a great deep: O LORD, you preserve man and beast.

⁶ Surely every man walks in a shadow. Surely they are in an uproar in vain. He heaps up and does not know who will gather them.

¹⁹ Your way was through the sea; your paths through the great waters. Your footsteps were not known.

² Cloud and thick darkness are surrounding him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

² "Surely I am the most ignorant man, and do not have a man's understanding. ³ I have not learned wisdom, nor the knowledge of the holy.

¹⁷ Then I saw all the work of God—man is not able to discover the work that is done under the sun. Although man may toil in seeking, he cannot find it. Even if a wise man claims that he knows it, he cannot find it.

³² He will be handed over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. ³³ and the third day he shall rise again. ³⁴ But the disciples did not understand any of these things. The meaning was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what He was saying.

¹⁸ They kept asking, “Why is He saying, ‘a little while’? We do not understand what He is saying.” ¹⁹ Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him a question, so he said to them, "Are you discussing among yourselves what I meant when I said, 'In a little while you will no longer see me, then in a little while you will see me again'?

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
