¹⁶ These are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. But Moses gave Hoshea, son of Nun, the name Joshua.

⁹ Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some men for us and go out to fight against the Amalekites. Tomorrow I'll stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand."

⁸ from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;

⁶ Joshua, the son of Nun and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, who were with those who explored the land, tore their clothes.

³⁰ none of you, shall enter into the land, as to which I uplifted my hand to give you an abode therein,—save Caleb son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, son of Nun:

⁴⁴ Then Moses came, along with Joshua son of Nun, and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people.
