²³ You made their children numerous like the stars of the heavens and brought them to the land that you told their ancestors to enter in order to take possession.

⁷ And the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." And he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever. ¹⁶ "I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth. If anyone could count the dust, your offspring could be counted. ¹⁷ "Go walk through the length and breadth of the land that I am giving to you."

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

¹⁸ On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram. He said: "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates,

⁸ "The whole land of Canaan, where you are now a guest (alien) (foreigner) (stranger), I will give a long lasting possession to you and your descendants after you. I will be their God."

¹⁷ '"I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities.

³ Stay in this land, and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your seed I will give all these lands. And I will cause to rise My oath which I swore to your father Abraham.

¹ After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' servant, saying, ² "My servant Moses is dead. Get up and cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites. ³ I'm giving you every place where the sole of your foot falls, just as I promised Moses.

²³ And David did not take a census of those twenty years old or under because the LORD promised to make Israel more numerous than the stars of heaven.
