Zaccur, the son of Imri worked there also. ³ The sons of Hassenaah built the fish gate. They laid its beams, and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars. ⁴ Next to them, Meremoth the son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz made repairs. Next to them, Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel made repairs. Next to them, Zadok the son of Baana made repairs. ⁵ And next to them the Tekoites restored; but their nobles did not put their necks to the work of their Lord. ⁶ And the Old Gate was repaired by Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah. They laid its beams and set up its doors and its locks and its bars. ⁷ And next unto them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, who were under the authority of the governor on this side of the river. ⁸ Next to him Uzziel son of Harhaiah (goldsmiths) repaired. Next to him Hananiah son of the perfume-makers repaired. Next to him Hattush son of Hashabneiah repaired. ¹¹ Malkijah son of Harim and Hasshub son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section and the Tower of the Ovens. ¹² Next to him Shallum son of Hallohesh, commander of half of the district of Jerusalem, repaired with his daughters. ¹³ The valley-gate repaired Hanun, and the inhabitants of Zanoah; they built it, and set up its doors, its locks and its bars, and a thousand cubits of the wall as far as the dung-gate. ¹⁴ But the Dung Gate was repaired by Malchiah the son of Rechab, the ruler of part of Beth-haccerem. He built it and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars. ¹⁵ And the Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun the son of Colhozeh, the ruler of part of Mizpah. He built it and covered it, and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars, and the wall of the Pool of Shelah by the King's Garden, and to the stairs that go down from the City of David. ¹⁶ After him Nehemiah son of Azbuk, commander of half of the district of Beth Zur, repaired up to a point opposite the burial sites of David, and up to the artificial pool and to the house of the mighty warriors. ¹⁷ After him, the Levites made repairs: Rehum the son of Bani, and next to him, Hashabiah, he ruler of half the district of Keilah, made repairs for his district. ¹⁸ after him, repaired, their brethren, Bavvai son of Henadad,—ruler of the [other] half-circuit of Keilah; ¹⁹ Next to him, Ezer the son of Jeshua, the ruler of Mizpah, repaired another portion, across from the ascent to the armory at the turning of the wall. ²⁰ After him Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired another piece, from the angle to the entry of the house of Eliashib the high priest. ²¹ After him, Meremoth the son of Uriah the son of Hakkoz repaired another portion, from the door of the house of Eliashib even to the end of the house of Eliashib. ²² And after him repaired the priests, the men of the plain. ²³ After them, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs across from their house. After them, Azariah the son of Maaseiah the son of Ananiah made repairs beside his own house. ²⁴ Following him, Henadad's son Binnui repaired another section from Azariah's house to the angle of the wall, and then to the corner. ²⁵ Palal son of Uzai repaired opposite the Angle at the tower that juts out from the upper house of the king, at the courtyard of the guard. After him Pedaiah son of Parosh ²⁶ and the temple servants who were living on Ophel repaired up to opposite the Water Gate on the east and the projecting tower. ²⁷ After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, over against the great projecting tower, even to the wall of Ophel. ²⁸ Above the horse gate, the priests made repairs, each one across from his own house. ²⁹ After them Zadok son of Immer repaired opposite his house. After him Shemaiah son of Shecaniah, keeper of the East Gate, repaired. ³⁰ After him Hananiah son of Shelemiah and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph repaired another section. After him Meshullam son of Berekiah repaired the wall opposite his room. ³¹ After him Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired up to the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Enrollment Gate and up to the upper room of the corner. ³² Between the ascent of the corner and the sheep gate, the goldsmiths and the merchants made repairs.

⁵ "The officers should speak to the army: If you have built a new house that has not been dedicated, you may go home. Otherwise, you might die in battle, and someone else will dedicate it.

³² Between the ascent of the corner and the sheep gate, the goldsmiths and the merchants made repairs.

¹ Now when it was reported to Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and to the rest of our enemies that I had built the wall and that no gap was left in it—though up to that time I had not erected doors in the gates—

¹ Now when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the gatekeepers and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

¹⁰ Jeshua was the father of Joiakim, and Joiakim was the father of Eliashib, and Eliashib was the father of Joiada,

³⁰ And the priests and the Levites purified themselves; and they purified the people, and the gates and the wall.

³⁹ and from above the Ephraim Gate, above the Fish Gate, the Tower of Hananel and the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Sheep Gate. They stopped at the Guard Gate.

²⁸ One of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib, the chief priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite, so I sent him away from me.

¹ A psalm; a song for the dedication of the house. Of David. I will exalt you, O LORD, because you have drawn me up, and have not made my enemies rejoice over me.

⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

⁹ Honor the LORD with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase:

³⁸ "The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when the city will be rebuilt for me from the Tower of Hananel to Corner Gate.

¹⁰ All the land from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem shall be turned as the Arabah; and [Jerusalem] shall be lifted up, and shall dwell in her own place, from Benjamin`s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner-gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king`s winepresses.

² There is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool which is called in Hebrew Bethesda. Around it are five colonnades.

¹⁴ Then afterward he built an outer wall for the city of David west of the Gihon in the valley, and for the entrance into the Gate of the Fishes. And it encircled the Ophel and raised it very high. Then he placed strong commanders in all the fortified cities of Judah.

⁸ and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple, for the wall of the city, and for the house that I will occupy.” The king granted my requests, because of the good hand of my God on me.

⁶ And the Old Gate was repaired by Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah. They laid its beams and set up its doors and its locks and its bars.

¹⁰ And in that day, saith the LORD, Hark! a cry from the fish gate, and a wailing from the second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills.

³³ On the fourth day, the silver, gold, and vessels were weighed in the house of our God into the hand of priest Meremoth, the son of Uriah, and with him Eleazar son of Phinehas. With them were the Levites, Jehozabad son of Jeshua and Noadiah son of Binnui.

²¹ After him, Meremoth the son of Uriah the son of Hakkoz repaired another portion, from the door of the house of Eliashib even to the end of the house of Eliashib.

⁷ Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin,

¹⁵ Bunni, Azgad, Bebai,

²³ Curse Meroz, said the angel of the LORD. Curse bitterly its inhabitants, because they did not come to help the LORD, to help the LORD against the mighty.

² Joab sent someone to Tekoa to get a wise woman from there. He told her: "Please act like a mourner. Dress in mourning clothes. Do not use any cosmetic lotions. Act like a woman who has been mourning for the dead for a long time.

²⁷ After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, over against the great projecting tower, even to the wall of Ophel.

⁴ Then I said, "These are only the poor, they're foolish, for they don't know the LORD's way, the requirement of their God. ⁵ Let me go to the leaders and speak to them. For they know the LORD's way, the requirement of their God." "But they, all together, have broken the yoke and torn off the restraints.

² This is what the Lord has said to me: Make for yourself bands and yokes and put them on your neck;

⁸ If a nation and kingdom does not serve him King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and does not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I'll judge that nation with the sword, with famine, and with plague," declares the LORD, "until I've completely destroyed it by his hand.

¹² I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah using words like these: "Bring your neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon. Serve him and his people, and you will live!

⁸ "On that day," declares the LORD Almighty, "I will break the yokes off your necks and tear off your ropes. Foreigners will no longer make you serve them. ⁹ 'Rather, they will serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.

¹ The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds from Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah the king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Jehoash, two years before the earthquake.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

¹⁰ Now then, why do you test God by placing on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear?

²⁶ Brothers, think about your own calling. Not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.

¹⁷ Charge the rich of this world not to be arrogant, nor to set their hopes on such an uncertain thing as riches, but on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. ¹⁸ Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and ready to share,

³ But when the Inhabiters of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho, and Ai, ⁴ And they acted slyly, and they went and acted like envoys, and took old sacks for their asses, and old wineskins, even torn and bound up; ⁵ and old and patched sandals on their feet, and wore old garments. All the bread of their food supply was dry and moldy. ⁶ They went to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel: "We come from a distant country, make a treaty with us." ⁷ The men of Israel said to the Hivites: "Perhaps you live near us. How can we make a treaty with you?" ⁸ They said: "We are your servants." Joshua said to them: "Who are you? Where do you come from?" ⁹ They said to him, "Your servants have come from a very far country because of the name of the LORD your God; for we have heard of his fame, all that he did in Egypt, ¹⁰ and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites beyond Jordan, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan which dwelt at Ashtaroth. ¹¹ And our elders and all those who live in our country spoke to us saying, Take provisions with you for the journey, and go to meet them. Say to them, We are your servants. And now make a treaty with us. ¹² These loaves we took hot for our journey, on the day we set out to come to you; but now they are dry, and become mouldy; ¹³ And these wineskins were new when we filled them, but look now they're cracked. And our clothes and sandals are worn out from our very long journey." ¹⁴ The men sampled their provisions but did not ask for counsel from the LORD. ¹⁵ Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live. the leaders of the congregation ratified it by an oath. ¹⁶ But three days after they had made the treaty with them, they learned that they were their neighbors and were living in their midst. ¹⁷ And the Israelites set out and went to their cities on the third day (their cities were Gibeon, Kephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim). ¹⁸ But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by the LORD the God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against their leaders. ¹⁹ But all the leaders of the congregation said, "We have sworn to them by the LORD the God of Israel, and so we cannot touch them. ²⁰ This we will do to them: we will let them live so that wrath will not be on us because of the oath we swore to them." ²¹ They shall live, and shall be woodcutters and water carriers to all the congregation, as the princes said to them. ²² And Joshua summoned them and said, "Why have you deceived us saying, 'We are very far from you' when you are living among us? ²³ Therefore you are cursed; some of you will always be slaves as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God." ²⁴ They answered Joshua, and said, "Because your servants were certainly told how the LORD your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing. ²⁵ And now we are in your hands: do to us whatever seems good and right to you. ²⁶ Joshua saved them from the children of israel. they did not kill them. ²⁷ And on that day Joshua made them woodcutters, and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the LORD at the place which He should choose, to this day.

² So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites were not from the Israelites; they were from the remainder of the Amorites. Now the Israelites had sworn to them, but Saul tried to wipe them out in his zeal for the Israelites and Judah.

⁶ Then king Asa took all Juda, and they carried away from Rama the stones, and the timber that Baasa had prepared for the building: and he built with them Gabaa, and Maspha.

⁷ And I said to the king, If it pleases the king, let him give me letters to the governors beyond the river, so as to permit me to pass, till I come to Judah; ⁸ and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple, for the wall of the city, and for the house that I will occupy.” The king granted my requests, because of the good hand of my God on me.

¹⁹ Next to him, Ezer the son of Jeshua, the ruler of Mizpah, repaired another portion, across from the ascent to the armory at the turning of the wall.

² And Joseph commanded the physicians, his servants, to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel.

²⁵ You shall make them into a holy anointing oil, a perfume mixture made by a perfumer. It shall be a holy anointing oil.

³¹ After him Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired up to the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Enrollment Gate and up to the upper room of the corner. ³² Between the ascent of the corner and the sheep gate, the goldsmiths and the merchants made repairs.

³⁸ The second thanksgiving choir approached opposite them, and I followed them. Half of the people stood on the crest of the wall from beyond the Tower of the Ovens to the Broad Wall,

¹ Dead flies cause the oil of the perfumer to send forth an evil odor, [so] a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.

⁶ "Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales. They hire a goldsmith to make it into a god. They bow down and worship it.

⁸ Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea, and we went to stay at the home of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the Seven. ⁹ He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.

³ Yes, and I ask you also, true yoke-fellow, to help these women who have struggled at my side in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

¹⁸ His Judean wife gave birth to Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. These were the children of Pharaoh's daughter Bithiah, whom Mered had married.

⁹ Uzziah also built towers in Jerusalem, at the Corner Gate, at the Valley Gate, and at the Angle and fortified them.

¹³ I went out by night by the valley gate, even toward the jackal's well, and to the dung gate, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem which were broken down, and its gates which were consumed with fire.

³⁰ Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages, Lachish and its fields, and Azekah and its towns. So they encamped from Beersheba to the valley of Hinnom.

³¹ Then I brought up the leaders of Judah to the crest of the wall, and appointed two large thanksgiving choirs, the first of which proceeded on the wall to the right toward the Dung Gate.

¹ “Flee for safety, you children of Benjamin, out of the middle of Jerusalem! Blow the trumpet in Tekoa and raise up a signal on Beth Haccherem, for evil looks out from the north with a great destruction.

¹ All the Israelites went out, from Dan to Beersheba, including the land of Gilead, and they gathered as one body to the LORD at Mizpah.

³ Now the Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah. The Israelites said, Tell us how this wicked thing happened.

⁶ The king and his men went to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived in that region. The Jebusites told David: "You will never get in here. Even the blind and the lame could turn you away. In other words he could not enter there." ⁷ David captured the fortress of Zion, the city of David.

⁴ The city was breached, and the entire army left during the night through the gate that stood between the two walls beside the royal garden, even though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city. They escaped by way of the Arabah,

³⁰ Hezekiah stopped up the upper outlet of the Gihon springs and diverted them down to the western side of the city of David. He prospered in everything he did.

¹⁴ Then I went on to the door of the fountain and to the king's pool: but there was no room for my beast to get through.

⁷ And next unto them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, who were under the authority of the governor on this side of the river.

³⁷ At the Fountain Gate opposite them they went up the steps of the city of David, at the assent to the wall, over the house of David, and up to the Water Gate to the east.

⁶ "Because this people has refused the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoices over Rezin and the son of Remaliah,

⁶ Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, at Mizpah and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.

⁴ Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam collapsed on them: Do you think that they were more sinful than all the others living in Jerusalem?

⁷ Then He told him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came back seeing.

⁵⁸ Halhul, Beth Zur, Gedor,

²⁷ so King Rehoboam made small copper shields in place of them and entrusted them to the commanders of the royal guard who keep the doorway of the king's house. ²⁸ Whenever the king entered the LORD's temple, the guards would carry them to and from the guard's quarters.

²⁰ Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah

⁴⁵ The son of Shammai was Maon; and Maon was the father of Beth Zur.

¹⁰ And king Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place, and deposited them into the hand of the chiefs of the runners who kept the gate of the king's house. ¹¹ When the king went into the LORD's Temple, guards carried the shields and then returned them to the guardroom.

¹⁴ And they buried him in the tomb which he had dug for himself in the City of David, and they laid him on a bed, and filled it with spices and all kinds of perfumes of the apothecaries; and they made for him a very great funeral.

⁷ Look, it is Solomon's carriage. Sixty mighty men are around it, of the mighty men of Israel.

³ Then the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go out to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-Jashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway of the washer's field.

¹¹ You made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But you did not look to him who did it, or have regard for him who planned it long ago.

²⁹ "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and that his tomb is among us to this day.

⁴⁴ Keilah, Aczib, and Mareshah; nine cities and their villages.

¹ David was told, "Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing floors." ² So David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" And the LORD said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah." ³ David's men said to him, "Look, we're afraid here in Judah. How much then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine army?" ⁴ So David again inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him and said, "Get up, go down to Keilah, for I am giving the Philistines into your hand." ⁵ David and his men went to Keilah and fought the Philistines. He carried off their livestock and defeated them decisively, and so David delivered the inhabitants of Keilah. ⁶ Now as Abiathar, son of Abimelech, had fled to David, he went down with him to Keila, having the ephod in his hand. ⁷ Saul was told that David had gone to Keilah and he said, God has delivered him into my hand, for he is trapped by going into a town that has gates and bars. ⁸ And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men. ⁹ When David learned that Saul was plotting evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here." ¹⁰ David said, "LORD God of Israel. Your servant has definitely heard that Saul intends to come to Keilah to destroy the town because of me. ¹¹ Will the rulers of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? O LORD, God of Israel, please tell your servant!" And the LORD said, "He will come down." ¹² Then David said, Will the men of Keilah give me and my men up to Saul? and the Lord said, They will give you up. ¹³ David and his men, about six hundred in all, left Keilah. They went wherever they could go. Then Saul was told: "David has escaped from Keilah! So he gave up the campaign."

⁴ David said: Of these, twenty-four thousand are to supervise the work of the LORD’s Temple and six thousand are to be officials and judges.

¹⁶ After him Nehemiah son of Azbuk, commander of half of the district of Beth Zur, repaired up to a point opposite the burial sites of David, and up to the artificial pool and to the house of the mighty warriors.

⁹ And the Levites; Jeshua son of Azaniah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmiel;

⁸ The Levites included Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, who with his associates was in charge of the songs of thanksgiving.

¹ Then Eliashib the high priest and his brothers the priests arose and rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and erected its doors. They consecrated it up to the Tower of the Hundred and up to the Tower of Hananel.

⁴ Before this, Eliashib the priest had been placed over the rooms of the house of our God. He was a friend of Tobiah.

¹ And the word of the LORD will be to Jeremiah the second time, and he yet shut up in the enclosure of the prison, saying,

¹ And all the people gathered as one man into the plaza before the Water Gate. And they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

³ Ezra read from it, facing the plaza in front of the Water Gate, from early in the morning until mid-day in the presence of the men and women, as well as all who could understand. All the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.

¹⁶ And the people went out and brought in, and made themselves booths, each one upon his roof, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the Water Gate, and in the street of the Gate of Ephraim.
