²² Then He said to the disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.

¹⁵ Jesus replied, “How can the attendants of the bridegroom mourn while He is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them; then they will fast.

²⁰ But a time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and when that day comes, they will fast.

³⁵ But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them: in those days they will fast.

³⁵ Look, your house is left to you desolate. And I tell you, you will not see Me again until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

³³ And Jesus said, I am with you just a short while, and I am going to him who sent me. ³⁴ You will look for Me, but you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.” ³⁵ The Jews said to one another, "Where is this man going that we shall not find him? Will he go to the Jews who are scattered among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? ³⁶ What does he mean when he said, 'You will seek me and you will not find me,' and, 'Where I am you cannot come'?"

²¹ Again He said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for Me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.” ²² So the Jews said, "Will he kill himself? Is that why he says, 'Where I go, you cannot come'?" ²³ Then He told them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. ²⁴ I told you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, "A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

³³ Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me, but what I told the Jews I now tell you, 'Where I am going, you cannot come.'

⁵ But now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' ⁶ But because I have said these things to you, grief has filled your heart. ⁷ But I tell you the truth, it is for your benefit that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

¹⁶ In a little while you will see Me no more, and then after a little while you will see Me.” ¹⁷ So some of his disciples said to one another, "What does he mean by telling us, 'In a little while, you will behold me no longer; then, after a little, you shall see me'? and, 'I go to the Father'?" ¹⁸ They kept asking, “Why is He saying, ‘a little while’? We do not understand what He is saying.” ¹⁹ Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him a question, so he said to them, "Are you discussing among yourselves what I meant when I said, 'In a little while you will no longer see me, then in a little while you will see me again'? ²⁰ Truly, truly, I tell you, you will weep and wail while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. ²¹ A woman has pain in childbirth because her time has come; but when she brings forth her child, she forgets her anguish because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. ²² So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

¹¹ I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, protect them by Your name, the name You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one. ¹² While I was with them, I protected and preserved them by Your name, the name You gave Me. Not one of them has been lost, except the son of destruction, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled. ¹³ But now I am coming to You, and I am saying these things while I am in the world, so that they may have My joy fulfilled within them.
