⁶ "In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were deserted. Travelers used the back roads.

²² "'I will send wild animals among you. They will rob you of your children. They will destroy your cattle, and make you so few that your roads will be deserted.

³¹ After him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who struck six hundred men of the Philistines with an ox goad. He also saved Israel.

¹⁷ Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. ¹⁸ And Jael went out to Sisera, and said to him, Come in, my lord, come in to me without fear. ⁵ "No one could come and go in peace at that time. This is because everyone living in the land had a lot of turmoil.

⁸ The highways are deserted, no travelers are on the roads. The treaty is broken and its witnesses are despised. No one is respected.

⁴ The roads of Zion mourn without any going to the appointed feasts. All her gates are deserted; her priests sigh; her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness.

¹⁸ They go after our steps so that we may not go in our streets: our end is near, our days are numbered; for our end has come.

¹² Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed up like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the temple Mount like a forest high place."
