¹⁹ Drought and heat snatch away the snow waters, like Sheol snatches away those who have sinned.

¹⁵ "But my brothers are as undependable as intermittent streams, as the streams that overflow ¹⁶ when darkened by thawing ice and swollen with melting snow, ¹⁷ but that cease to flow in the dry season, and in the heat vanishes from their channels.

¹³ They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment they go down to Sheol

²³ One dies in his full strength, wholly secure and at ease;

³² Yet is he carried to the graves, and watch is kept over the tomb. ³³ The clods of the valley will be sweet to him. All men will draw after him, as there were innumerable before him. ³⁴ How then, can you console me so worthlessly? What is left of your answers is treachery."

¹⁴ Like sheep, they are laid in the grave. Death will shepherd them. The upright will rule them in the morning. Their forms will decay in the grave, far away from their comfortable homes.

⁸ Like a slug melting away as it goes along; Like the stillborn of a woman, they will fail to perceive the sun." ⁹ Before your pots can feel the heat of a thornbush, whether green or dry, he will sweep it away.

² As smoke is driven away, You drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, let the wicked perish in the presence of God.

³² The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.

⁴ Whoever is joined to all the living has hope. A living dog is better than a dead lion. ⁵ For the living know that they will die, but the dead do not know anything. They no longer have a reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten. ⁶ Furthermore, their love, their hate, and their envy have been long lost. Never again will they have a part in what happens on earth.

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul will be demanded of you. Then who will have all you have prepared?'
