²¹ "Terrifying sounds fill his ears. When all seems well, marauders attack him.

⁹ But the LORD God called to the man: "Where are you?" ¹⁰ He (Adam) answered: "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."

It collapsed on the young people, and they died. I alone escaped to tell you!"

¹¹ "Terrors startle him on every side and chase him at his heels.

⁵ "The success of the wicked is brief and the joy of the godless lasts but a moment. ⁶ "Though his pride reaches to the heavens and his head touches the clouds, ⁷ he will perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him will say: Where is he?

²² In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress will overtake him. The hand of everyone who is in misery will come on him. ²³ "With his belly full, God will vent his burning anger against him and rain down his blows upon him. ²⁴ "Though he flees from an iron weapon, a bronze-tipped arrow pierces him. ²⁵ "He pulls it out of his back, the gleaming point out of his liver. Terrors will come over him.

²⁰ Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night.

¹⁸ Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down into ruin. ¹⁹ How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

⁷ though the wicked spring up as the grass, and all the evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever.

²⁶ I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you, ²⁷ when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.

²¹ On the appointed day, Herod donned his royal robes, sat on his throne, and addressed the people. ²² The people kept shouting, "This is the voice of a god, not of a man!" ²³ Immediately, because Herod did not give glory to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

¹⁰ And do not complain, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroying angel.

³ While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

¹¹ They have as king over them the angel of the abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.
