Jeremiah 13:1-11

1 This is what the LORD said to me: "Go and buy a linen belt for yourself, and put it around your waist. But don't let it get wet." 2 So I bought a belt according to the LORD's word, and put it on my waist. 3 Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time: 4 Take the belt that you bought and that is around your waist. Get up and go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a crevice in the rock." 5 So I went, and hid it in Perath, as the LORD commanded me. 6 After a long time, the LORD said to me, "Arise, go to the Euphrates, and get the belt that I commanded you to hide there." 7 I went to the Euphrates and dug it up. I got the belt from the place where I had hidden it. The belt was ruined! It was not good for anything. 8 Then the word of the LORD came to me: 9 "This is what the LORD says: 'In the same way I'll ruin the pride of Judah and the pride of Jerusalem. 10 This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and go after other gods, to serve them and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle which is good for nothing. 11 For as the belt clings to the waist of a man, so have I caused to cling to me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah,' says the LORD; 'that they might be my people, for a name, for praise, and for glory. But they would not listen.

There I will give you my message." 3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he was working a work on the wheel. 4 But the vessel he was working on with the clay was ruined in the potter's hand. So he remade it into another vessel that seemed appropriate to him. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: 6 O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter? says the LORD. Behold, As the clay in the potter's hands, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel. 7 At one moment I may speak about a nation or a kingdom to uproot it, pull it down, or destroy it. 8 But if that nation about which I spoke turns from its evil way, I'll change my mind about the disaster that I had planned for it. 9 At another moment I may speak about a nation or kingdom to build it or plant it. 10 But if it does evil in my sight, to not listen to my voice, then I will relent concerning the good that I said I would do to it. 11 "Now say to the people of Judah and to those who live in Jerusalem, This is what the LORD says: 'I am going to prepare a disaster and make a plot against you. Turn from your evil ways, change your lives, and do good.' 12 But they say, 'It is in vain; for we will walk after our own plans, and we will each follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.'”

Jeremiah 19:1-15

1 This is what the LORD says: "Go and buy a potter's clay jug. Take along some of the elders of the people and some of the elders of the priests. 2 Go out to the Valley of Hinnom at the entrance to the Potsherd Gate, and there proclaim the words that I'm telling you. 3 And say, Hear the Word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and people of Jerusalem. So says the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil on this place, which shall cause the ears of him who hears it to tingle. 4 For they have forsaken me and have treated this place as foreign. In it they have burned incense to other gods that neither they, their ancestors, nor the kings of Judah knew. They have also filled this place with the blood of innocent people. 5 and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt offerings to Baal; which I did not command, nor spoke it, neither came it into my mind: 6 "'"Therefore, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when this place will no longer be called Topheth, or the Valley of Hinnom, but rather the Valley of Slaughter. 7 "I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place. I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of those who seek their life. I will give their carcasses as food for the birds of the sky and the animals of the earth. 8 I'll make this city into a desolate place and an object of scorn. All who pass by it will be astonished and will scoff because of all its wounds. 9 "I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life will cause them."' 10 And break the bottle before the eyes of the men going with thee, 11 and shall say to them, So says the LORD Almighty, Even so I will break this people of this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel that cannot be made whole again. And they shall bury them in Tophet until there is no place left to bury. 12 "'This is how I will treat this place and its inhabitants,'declares the LORD, 'I will make this city like Topheth. 13 And the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah were defiled as the place of Tophet to all the houses which they burnt incense upon their roofs to all the army of the heavens, and pouring out libations to other gods 14 Then Jeremiah returned from Tophet, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD’s house and said to all the people, 15 "Thus says the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, 'Look, I am about to bring to this city and upon all its towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their neck to not hear my words.'"

Ezekiel 4:1-5:17

1 »Son of man, take a clay tablet and put it in front of you. Draw the city of Jerusalem on it. 2 "Then lay siege to it. Erect siege works against it. Build a ramp up to it. Set up camps against it and put battering rams around it. 3 "Take an iron pan and place it as an iron wall between you and the city. Then turn your face toward it. It will be under siege, and you shall besiege it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel. 4 "Then lie on your left side and put the sin of the house of Israel upon yourself. You are to bear their sin for the number of days you lie on your side. 5 "I have assigned you the same number of days as the years of their sin. So for three hundred and ninety days you will bear the sin of the house of Israel. 6 "After you have finished this lie down again. This time lie on your right side, and bear the sin of the house of Judah. I have assigned you forty days, a day for each year. 7 "Turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem and with bared arm prophesy against her. 8 "I will tie you up with ropes so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have finished the days of your siege. 9 "Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself. You are to eat it during the three hundred and ninety days you lie on your side. 10 "Weigh out eight ounces of food for each day and eat it at set times. 11 »You will also have a limited amount of water to drink, two cups a day. 12 And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with human excrement in their sight. 13 And the LORD said, Even so shall the sons of Israel eat their defiled bread among the nations, where I will drive them. 14 Then I said, “Ah Sovereign LORD! Behold, my soul has not been polluted; for from my youth up even until now I have not eaten of that which dies of itself, or is torn of animals. No abominable meat has come into my mouth!” 15 So God said: "Very well. I will let you use cow dung instead. You can bake your bread on that." 16 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will cut off the supply of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and in dismay: 17 so that they will lack food and water, and they will be appalled with one another, and they will waste away because of their guilt.

Ezekiel 5:1-17

1 "As for you, son of man, take a sharp sword. Take and use it as a barber's razor to shave your head and beard. Then take scales for weighing and divide the hair. 2 »You should burn one-third of the hair in the fire at the center of the city when the siege is over. Take one third and strike it with the sword all around the city. The remaining one third you shall scatter to the wind. I will unsheathe a sword behind them. 3 And you shall take a few of them, and wrap them in the fold of your garment. 4 »Take again some of them and throw them into the fire and burn them in the fire. Fire will spread from there to all the house of Israel. 5 "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: This is Jerusalem. I have set her at the center of the nations with countries all around her. 6 »She has rebelled against my ordinances more wickedly than the nations and against my statutes more than the lands that surround her. My people have rejected my ordinances and have not walked in my statutes. 7 For this cause the Lord has said: Because you have been more uncontrolled than the nations round about you, and have not been guided by my rules or kept my orders, but have kept the orders of the nations round about you; 8 therefore the Sovereign LORD says: 'Behold, I, even I, am against you; and I will execute judgments among you in the sight of the nations. 9 '"Because of all your abominations, I will do among you what I have not done before, and the like of which I will never do again. 10 Therefore the fathers will eat the sons within you, and the sons will eat their fathers. I will execute judgments on you; and I will scatter the whole remnant of you to all the winds. 11 '"As I live, declares the Sovereign LORD,' 'because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable idols and with all your abominations I will withdraw, and my eye will have no pity and I will not spare you. 12 '"One third of your people will die by plague or be consumed by famine! One third will fall by the sword! One third I will scatter to every wind! I will unsheathe a sword behind them (war will follow them). 13 '"I will unleash my anger. I will use my fury against you, and I will get revenge. When my fury is unleashed against you, you will know that I, the LORD, spoke to you with all my zeal. 14 And I will make you into a waste and a reproach among the nations that are around you, in the eyes of all who pass by. 15 So it will be a reproach and a taunt, an instruction and an astonishment, to the nations that are around you, when I execute judgments on you in anger and in wrath, and in wrathful rebukes—I, the LORD, have spoken it— 16 '"When I shoot my destructive arrows of famine at you, I will shoot to kill you. I will bring more and more famine into your land. I will cut off your food supply. 17 And I will send against you famine and fierce animals, and they will make you childless; and plague and blood will pass through you, and I will bring the sword upon you. I, the LORD, I have spoken!"

Ezekiel 12:3-16

3 Therefore, you son of man, prepare you belongings for moving, and move by day in their sight; and you shall move from your place to another place in their sight: it may be they will consider, though they are a rebellious house. 4 »Bring out your bags as if you were going into exile. Let them see this in the daylight. In the evening let them see you leave like a captive going into exile. 5 Dig through the wall in their sight, and carry out your belongings through it. 6 "Let them see you put your bags on your shoulders and carry them out in the dark. Cover your face so that you won't see the land. I have made you a sign to warn the nation of Israel." 7 I did as I was commanded: I brought forth my belongings by day, as if for exile, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my hand; I brought it forth in the dark, and carried it on my shoulder in their sight. 8 And in the morning the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 9 "Son of man, did the rebellious nation of Israel ask you what you were doing? 10 Say to them, 'Thus says the Sovereign LORD: This burden concerns the prince in Jerusalem, and all the people of Israel who are in it'. 11 Say, I am your sign: As I have done, so it shall be done to them. They shall go into exile, into captivity. 12 '"The prince who is among you will put his bags on his shoulders in the dark and leave. People will dig holes in the wall to go through. The prince will cover his face so that he cannot see the land.'" 13 And I will spread out my net on him, and he will be captured in my hunting snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, but he will not see it, and there he will die. 14 "I will scatter to every wind all who are around him, his helpers and all his troops. I will draw out a sword after them. 15 “'They will know that I am the LORD when I disperse them among the nations, and scatter them through the countries. 16 "I will spare a few of them from the sword, the famine and the pestilence that they may tell all their abominations among the nations where they go, and may know that I am the LORD."
