23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water because it tasted bitter. That is why the place was called Marah (Bitter Place). 24 So the people murmured against Moses—saying, What are we to drink? 25 And he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. Isaiah 5:2-4

2 He dug it up, gathered out its stones, planted it with the choicest vine, built a tower in its midst, and also cut out a winepress in it. He looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes. 3 And now, dweller of Jerusalem, and man of Judah, judge, pray, between Me and My vineyard, 4 What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Romans 11:16-18

16 If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, then the whole lump is holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. 17 Now if some branches have been broken off, and you, a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others to share in the nourishment of the olive root, 18 do not boast over those branches. If you do, remember this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.
