¹ In the days of Ahaz son of Jotham son of Uzziah, king of Judah, King Rezin of Aram and King Pekah son of Remaliah of Israel went up to attack Jerusalem, but could not mount an attack against it.

²⁵ And Pekah the son of Remaliah, his captain, conspired against him, and smote him in Samaria, in the castle of the king's house, with Argob and Arieh. And fifty men of the Gileadites with him were there. And he killed him, and reign

³⁷ In those days the Lord began to send Rezin king of Syria, and Pekah son of Remaliah against Judah.

¹ In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz the son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign.

¹ Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what is right in the eyes of the LORD like David his ancestor. ² but walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also made casted images for the Baals. ³ And he himself burned incense in the valley of Ben-Hinnom and burned his sons in the fire, according to the detestable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the Israelites. ⁴ And he sacrificed and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops, and under every flourishing tree. ⁵ the LORD his God handed him over to the king of Aram, who defeated him, captured many prisoners, and brought them to Damascus. He also handed him over to the king of Israel, who decisively defeated him. ⁶ In one day Pekah, son of Remaliah, killed one hundred and twenty thousand soldiers in Judah because they had abandoned the LORD the God of their ancestors.

³ They conspire with cunning against your people. They plot against your cherished ones. ⁴ “Come,” they say, “let’s destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” ⁵ Indeed, they shrewdly planned together, forming an alliance against you

⁹ Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Listen, all you from far countries: dress for battle, and be shattered! Dress for battle, and be shattered! ¹⁰ ⌊Make a plan⌋, but it will be frustrated! Speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us!
