³ I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live.

² The sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful. They married any of them they chose.

⁴ The NEPHILIM were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God had sexual intercourse with the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

¹⁵ Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites, ¹⁶ Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, ¹⁷ Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, ¹⁸ Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans scattered, ¹⁹ and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

¹⁹ And he blessed him and said, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth.

²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth,

²³ Now therefore swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son. Do to me according to the kindness that I have sworn to you, and to the land in which you have lived.

²⁸ They said, "We saw plainly that the LORD was with you. We said, 'Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you, ²⁹ that you may not do us harm just as we have not touched you, but have only done good to you and sent you away in peace. You are now blessed by the LORD." ³⁰ And he made a feast for them, and they ate and drank. ³¹ And early in the morning they took an oath one to the other: then Isaac sent them away and they went on their way in peace.

³⁴ And when Esau was forty years old he took as wife Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite. ³⁵ Who were a source of grief unto Isaac and to Rebekah.

⁴⁶ Then Rebekah said to Isaac, "I loathe my life because of the Hittite women. If Jacob takes a wife from Hittite women like these, from the native women, what am I living for?"

⁸ Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please Isaac, his father.

⁴⁴ Come, let us make an agreement, you and I; and let it be for a witness between us. ⁴⁵ So Jacob took a stone,—and set it up as a pillar. ⁴⁶ Jacob said to his relatives, "Gather stones." They took stones, and made a heap. They ate there by the heap. ⁴⁷ Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed. ⁴⁸ Laban said, “This heap is witness between me and you today.” Therefore it was named Galeed ⁴⁹ and also Mizpah (Watchtower), because he said: "May the LORD watch between you and me when we are unable to see each other. ⁵⁰ If you mistreat my daughters, and if you take wives besides my daughters, when there is no man with us, see—God is a witness between me and you." ⁵¹ Laban also said to Jacob: "Here is the pile of stones. Here is the marker that I have set up between you and me. ⁵² This heap is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and that you shall not pass over this heap and this pillar to me, for harm. ⁵³ May the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father judge between us." Then Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

²⁵ Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear an oath, saying, "God will surely visit you, and you shall bring up my bones from here."

⁷ “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.

¹¹ "The case between them must be settled by swearing an oath to the LORD that the neighbor did not take the other person's animal. The owner must accept the oath. The neighbor does not have to make up for the loss.

¹³ "Be careful to do all things that I have said to you; and do not invoke the name of other gods, neither let them be heard out of your mouth.

¹³ Fear the LORD your God, serve him, and make your oaths in his name.

³ "Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. ⁴ For that would turn away your sons from following me, that they may serve other gods. So the LORD's anger would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.

²⁰ "Respect the LORD your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.

¹² Now therefore, I pray you, swear to me by the LORD, since I have showed you kindness, that you will also show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token:

¹⁷ Jonathan made David vow again out of his love for him, because he loved him as himself.

⁶ "You alone are the LORD. You alone have made the heavens, the heavens of the heavens, and all of their army, the earth and all that is in it, the waters and all that is in them. You give life to all of them, and the army of the heavens worship you.

²⁵ So I quarreled with them and cursed them and beat some of their men and pulled out their hair. I made them take an oath by God: "Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.

¹⁵ May you be blessed by the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

²³ By myself have I taken an oath, a true word has gone from my mouth, and will not be changed, that to me every knee will be bent, and every tongue will give honour.

¹ Hear this, house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel and came out from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD, and invoke the God of Israel, but not in truth and not in righteousness.

¹⁶ Whoever invokes a blessing in the land will do so by the God of (amen, so be it) truth; he who takes an oath in the land will swear by the God of truth. For the past troubles will be forgotten and hidden from my eyes.

² -- and thou shalt in truth, in justice, and in righteousness swear, [As] the LORD liveth! and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

¹¹ Tell this to them: "The gods who didn't make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from these heavens."

¹⁶ If they have learned the ways of my people well, to swear by my name: 'As surely as the LORD lives,' just as they once taught my people to swear by Baal, then they'll be built up among my people.

⁵ those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by the LORD and also swear by Malcam,

³⁹ A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, as long as he belongs to the Lord.

¹⁴ Do not enter a mismatch with unbelievers; for what do righteousness and lawlessness have in common? And what fellowship does light have with darkness? ¹⁵ What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ What agreement can exist between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.” ¹⁷ Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.

¹⁶ Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and their oath serves as a confirmation to end all argument.
