⁹ In that day messengers shall go out from Me in ships to terrify the confident Ethiopians, and anguish shall be on them, as in the day of Egypt; for lo, it is coming.

³ the LORD said: "Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,

⁵ "Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be afraid and put to shame.

⁵ When word arrives at Egypt, they will be in anguish at the report from Tyre.

⁹ Ye careless women rise up, hear my voice; ye daughters that are secure, give ear unto my speech. ¹⁰ In a year you will tremble, carefree ones, for the vintage will come to an end; the harvest will not come. ¹¹ Tremble you women who are at ease. Be troubled you complacent ones. Undress and put sackcloth on your waist,

⁸ Now, therefore hear this, Thou Lady of pleasure Who dwelleth securely, Who saith in her heart,—I, [am], and there is no one besides, I shall not sit a widow, Nor know loss of children.

²¹ At the noise of their fall, the earth shall quake, the cry of their voice shall be heard to the reed sea.

³¹ "Arise, go up against a nation at ease, living securely," declares the LORD, "without gates or bars, living alone.

¹⁶ '"Then all the princes of the sea will go down from their thrones and remove their robes and strip off their embroidered garments. They will clothe themselves with trembling. They will sit on the ground, tremble every moment and be appalled at you.

³⁵ All the dwellers of the coastlands are appalled at you, and their kings are horribly terrified; their faces tremble.

⁴ A sword will come on Egypt, and anguish will be in Ethiopia, when the slain fall in Egypt. They take away her multitude, and her foundations are broken down. ⁵ Cush and Put and Lud and all of Arabia and Kub and the people of the land of the treaty with them—by the sword they will fall." ⁶ Thus says the LORD: "And the supporters of Egypt will fall, and the majesty of its strength will go down from Migdol to Syene; by the sword they will fall in it," declares the Sovereign LORD.

⁹ "'I will also trouble the hearts of many peoples when I bring your destruction among the nations, into lands you have not known. ¹⁰ Yes, I will make many peoples amazed at you, and their kings will be horribly afraid for you, when I brandish my sword before them. They will tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your fall.”

³³ “When this comes to pass—behold, it comes—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

¹¹ ""You will say: "I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will go against those who are securely at rest. They live without walls and have no bars or gates."

⁶ I will send a fire on Magog, and on those who dwell securely in the islands; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

² The Sovereign LORD has sworn by His holiness that the days are coming that He will lift you up with meat hooks, and the last of you with fishhooks.

¹² "You Ethiopians (Cushites) will be slain by my sword!

¹⁵ This is the city of rejoicing that lived securely; the one saying in her heart, "I am, and there is none besides me." How she has become a desolation, a lair for wild animals! Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his fist.

² Wail, cypress tree, for the cedar has fallen while the stately trees are destroyed. Wail, oak trees of Bashan, for the old growth forest has been cut down. ³ Listen to the wailing of the shepherds, for their splendor is ruined! Listen to the roar of the young lions, for the thickets of the Jordan are ruined!

² for you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
