¹³ In your uncleanness is obscene conduct, because I cleansed you, but you were not clean from your uncleanness; you will not be clean again until ⌊I fully vent my rage⌋ on you.

¹⁴ All the leaders of the priests and the people likewise increased in unfaithfulness according to all the detestable things of the nations. And they polluted the house of the LORD that he had consecrated in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I looked for it to yield grapes, did it yield wild grapes? ⁵ Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled down. ⁶ "It will turn into a desert, neither pruned nor cultivated. It will be covered with thorns and briars. I will command the clouds not to send rain."

¹³ Yet the people have not turned to him who killed them, nor have they sought the LORD Almighty. ¹⁴ So the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed (rush) in one day. ¹⁵ Elders and dignitaries are the head, and prophets who teach lies are the tail. ¹⁶ For those who lead this people lead them astray; and those who are led by them are destroyed. ¹⁷ Therefore the Lord will have no joy in their young men, neither will have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is a hypocrite and an evil-doer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

²⁸ "They are all grievous rebels, going about with slanders; they are bronze and iron: they all of them deal corruptly. ²⁹ The bellows blow fiercely and the fire consumes the lead. The refining goes on in vain, but the wicked are not separated. ³⁰ They're called reject silver, because the LORD has rejected them.

³ "From the thirteenth year of the reign of Ammon's son Josiah, the king of Judah, until the present time, for 23 years the word of the LORD has come to me, and I've spoken to you again and again, but you haven't listened. ⁴ "the LORD has sent all his servants the prophets to you. Yet, you have not listened or paid attention to them." ⁵ Turn, everyone of you, from his evil way, and from your evil practices, and you shall dwell in the land which I gave to you and your fathers, forever and ever. ⁶ "Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them. Do not make me furious about the idols your hands have shaped. Then I will not harm you." ⁷ "'You have not listened to me,' declares the LORD. 'You have made me furious about the idols your hands have shaped. You have brought harm upon yourselves.'

¹⁸ “I have surely heard Ephraim grieving thus, 'You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as an untrained calf. Turn me, and I will be turned; for you are the LORD my God.

¹³ '"I will unleash my anger. I will use my fury against you, and I will get revenge. When my fury is unleashed against you, you will know that I, the LORD, spoke to you with all my zeal.

¹⁸ Therefore will I also deal with them in anger; My eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; and though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.

⁴² And I will satisfy my rage on you, and my jealousy will turn away from you, and I will be calm, and I will not be angry any longer.

²⁴ Son of man, say to her: Thou art a land that is unclean, and not rained upon in the day of wrath.

³⁶ the LORD said to me: "Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then declare to them their abominations. ³⁷ That they have committed adultery and there is blood on their hands? They have committed adultery with their idols; and caused their children whom they bore to me to pass through fire for them. ³⁸ Moreover this have they done unto me: in the same day have they defiled my sanctuary and profaned my sabbaths. ³⁹ "For when they had slaughtered their children for their idols, they entered my sanctuary on the same day to profane it. Then they did within my house. ⁴⁰ And they have even sent for men to come from far, to whom a messenger was sent. And lo, they came. You washed yourself for them, painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with ornaments, ⁴¹ "You sat on a splendid couch with a table arranged before it on which you had set my incense and my oil. ⁴² "The sound of a carefree multitude was with her. Drunkards were brought from the wilderness with men of the common sort. And they put bracelets on the hands of the women and beautiful crowns on their heads. ⁴³ Then I said about the one worn in adulteries, Will they now fornicate with her, and she with them ? ⁴⁴ And they went in to her, as they go in to a prostitute. So they went in to Oholah and to Oholibah, the lewd women. ⁴⁵ "But they, righteous men, will judge them with the judgment of adulteresses and with the judgment of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses and blood is on their hands. ⁴⁶ "The Sovereign LORD says: 'Bring up a company against them and give them over to terror and plunder. ⁴⁷ these shall stone them and gore them with their swords. They shall slay their sons and daughters and burn up their houses with fire. ⁴⁸ And I will put an end to evil in all the land, teaching all women not to do as you have done.

¹¹ '"Then set it empty on its coals so that it may be hot and its copper may glow and its filthiness may be melted in it. Let its rust be consumed.

¹ when I would heal Israel, and the corruption of Ephraim is revealed, and the wicked deeds of Samaria; because they deal in falsehood, the thief breaks in, and the bandit raids the outside.

⁹ Foreigners devour his strength, and he does not know it; mold is also sprinkled upon him, and he does not know it. ¹⁰ Israel's arrogance testifies against him; but they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him in all of this. ¹¹ Ephraim was like a dove, silly, ⌊without sense⌋; they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria. ¹² When they go, I will spread my net on them. I will bring them down like the birds of the sky. I will chastise them, as their congregation has heard. ¹³ Woe to them, because they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, because they have rebelled against me! I myself would redeem them, but they speak lies against me. ¹⁴ They haven’t cried to me with their heart, but they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me. ¹⁵ And I myself trained and strengthened their arms; but they plan evil against me. ¹⁶ They return, but not to the Most High. They are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue. This will be their derision in the land of Egypt.

⁶ "I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in every town; yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD. ⁷ "I withheld rain from you three months before the harvest. I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One received rain. The other did not receive rain and it dried up. ⁸ So two or three cities staggered to one city in order to drink water, but they were not satisfied; yet you have not returned to Me, declares the LORD. ⁹ "I afflicted you with blight and fungus; and the locust swarm devoured the harvest of your gardens, your vineyards, your fig trees, and your olive trees, but you have not returned to me," declares the LORD. ¹⁰ "I sent plagues among you like I did Egypt. I have slain your young men with the sword, and have carried away your horses; and I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camp, yet you haven't returned to me," says the LORD. ¹¹ "I overthrew your cities, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. You've become like a burning ember, snatched from the fire, but you have not returned to me," declares the LORD. ¹² Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel; and because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel.

² She obeyed not the voice. She received not correction. She trusted not in the LORD. She did not draw near to her God.

⁷ I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt accept correction; so that her dwelling should not be cut off, all that I had decreed to bring over her; but they rose up early, they acted corruptly in all their doings.

³⁷ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! ³⁸ Look, your house is left to you desolate.

⁷ So he said to the gardener, 'Look here! For three years I have been coming to look for fruit on this tree but haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it waste the soil?' ⁸ ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone again this year, until I dig around it and fertilize it. ⁹ If it bears fruit next year, fine. But if not, you can cut it down.’”

⁸ But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger. ⁹ There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Greek;

¹ Since we have these promises, dear friends, let's cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit by becoming mature in our holy fear of God.

¹¹ Let the unrighteous continue to be unrighteous, and the vile continue to be vile; let the righteous continue to practice righteousness, and the holy continue to be holy.”
