¹⁴ And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, 'What is this?' Thou shalt say unto him, 'With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

³³ "My honesty will speak for itself whenever you come to check on my wages. Any goat I have that is not speckled or spotted or any lamb that is not black will be considered stolen."

² so you may tell your children and your grandchildren how I toyed with the Egyptians and about my miraculous signs that I performed among them, so all of you may know that I am the LORD.

²⁰ "In the future your son will ask you: 'What is the meaning of these laws and regulations that the LORD our God has commanded you?' ²¹ tell him, 'We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with great power. ²² Before our very eyes, the LORD did great and terrible signs and wonders in Egypt, to Pharaoh, and to his entire household. ²³ and he brought us out from there to bring us in, - to give us the land he oathed to our fathers. ²⁴ Then the LORD commanded us to observe all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God for our own good, so that he may keep us alive as we are today.

⁶ Let this serve as a sign among you, so that when your children ask in times to come, 'What do these stones mean to you,'

²¹ He spoke to the children of israel: »when your children will ask their fathers in time to come, what these stones mean? ²² Tell your children that Israel crossed that Jordan on dry ground, ²³ For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you, until you had crossed, just as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up before us until we had crossed over, ²⁴ so that all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD is mighty, and so that you might fear the LORD your God forever.

²⁴ "No! We did it because we were afraid that in the future your descendants would say to ours: What do you have to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?

⁴ One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.
