⁸ "Now you plan to fight against the royal authority the LORD gave to David's descendants. You have a huge army! You have with you the golden calves that Jeroboam made to be your gods.

²⁸ And the king took counsel, and went, and made two golden heifers, and said to the people, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold, here are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

⁹ but have done evil above all who were before you, and have gone and made for yourself other gods, molten images, to provoke me to anger, and have cast me behind your back;

⁸ Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in you, to set you on his throne, to be king for the LORD your God: because your God loved Israel, to establish them forever, therefore he made you king over them, to do justice and righteousness."

¹⁵ and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made.

⁶ and he said, "O LORD, the God of our fathers, aren't you God in heaven? Aren't you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.

¹² Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us. We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

¹ Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain? ² The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. ³ "Let us break their bands asunder and throw off from us their yoke." ⁴ The One who dwells in heaven laughs. the LORD scoffs at them. ⁵ Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his rage (fury). He says: ⁶ "But I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy hill."

¹⁶ The king is not saved by great force; a mighty man is not saved by great strength.

⁶ "'"Let us invade Judah. Let us tear it apart and divide it among us. Let us make the son of Tabeel king over Judah." ⁷ "'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "It will not take place! It will not happen!

⁶ For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

⁵ Your calf is rejected, O Samaria; my anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence? ⁶ For from Israel it came also. The craftsman made it, but it is not God. For the calf of Samaria shall be splinters.

¹⁴ But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not want this man to rule over us.’

²⁷ But those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.'"
