He took three thousand of Israel's best-trained men to search for David. ³ Saul encamped by the road on the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, but David stayed in the wilderness. When he saw that Saul had come after him into the wilderness, ⁴ David sent out spies, and learned that Saul was certainly come. ⁵ Then David went to the place where Saul camped. David saw the place where Saul and Ner's son Abner, the commander of the army, were lying. Saul was lying in the camp. The troops were camped around him. ⁶ David asked Ahimelech the Hittite, and Abishai the brother of Joab: "Who will go to Saul’s camp with me?" "I will," Abishai answered. ⁷ So David and Abishai came to the army by night, and there was Saul lying asleep in the encampment with his spear thrust into the ground near his head, and Abner and the army were lying all around him. ⁸ Abishai said to David, "Today God has delivered your enemy into your hand. Let me run the spear through him into the ground with a single blow. I won't need to strike him twice!" ⁹ But David said to Abishai, "Destroy him not — for who can lay his hand on the LORD's anointed and be guiltless?" ¹⁰ As the LORD lives, the LORD will strike him down, or his time will come to die, or he will go into battle and perish. ¹¹ The LORD forbid that I should raise my hand against the LORD's anointed. Now take the spear that is at his head and the jug of water, and let's go." ¹² So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul's head and they went away; and no-one saw it or knew about it, neither did anyone awake, for they were all asleep because a deep sleep from the LORD had fallen on them. ¹³ Then David crossed over to the other side and stood on top of the hill some distance away with a large distance between them. ¹⁴ David called out to the army and to Ner's son Abner, "Abner, won't you answer me?" Abner answered: "Who are you who calls out to the king?" ¹⁵ David said to Abner, "Are you not a man, and who is like you in Israel? Why didn't you guard your lord, the king? Indeed, a soldier came to destroy the king, your lord. ¹⁶ What you have done is not good. As the LORD lives, you are worthy to die because you have not kept watch over your lord, the LORD's anointed. Where are the king's spear and the jar of water that was at his head? ¹⁷ Saul recognized David's voice and said: "Is that your voice my son David?" And David said: "It is my voice, my lord the king. ¹⁸ Why does my lord pursue his servant? What have I done? What evil am I guilty of? ¹⁹ Now let your majesty listen to the words of his servant. If the LORD incited you against me, then may he accept an offering. But if it is people, may they be cursed before the LORD, because they have driven me out today from sharing in the inheritance of the LORD by saying, 'Go serve other gods.' ²⁰ And so then, do not let my blood fall to the ground away from the presence of the LORD, for the king of Israel has gone out to seek a single flea, as one hunts a partridge in the mountains." ²¹ Then Saul said, "I have sinned! Come back, David my son, for I will not harm you again, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Look, I have acted like a fool and have made a terrible mistake." ²² David replied, "Here's the king's spear. Have one of the young men come over and get it. ²³ The LORD reward every man's righteousness and faith: for the LORD delivered thee into my hand this day, but I would not lay my hand upon the LORD's anointed. ²⁴ And so, as your life was dear to me today, may my life be dear to the Lord, and may he make me free from all my troubles. ²⁵ Then Saul said to David, May you be blessed, my son David. You will do great things and will surely triumph. So David went on his way, and Saul returned home.

¹⁹ Then the Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, "Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh on the hill of Hakilah, which is south of Jeshimon?

³ Saul encamped by the road on the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, but David stayed in the wilderness. When he saw that Saul had come after him into the wilderness,

¹ Save me, God, by your name. Vindicate me in your might. ² Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth. ³ For foreigners have risen against me, and ruthless men seek my life. They have not set God before them. Selah ⁴ Behold, God is my helper, the Lord is the one who sustains my soul. ⁵ He will repay my enemies for their evil; in your faithfulness destroy them. ⁶ I will freely sacrifice to you: I will praise your name, O LORD; for it is good. ⁷ for he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eyes have seen the end of my enemies.

² Saul chose three thousand men of Israel, of which two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the Mount of Bethel, and one thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin, and the rest of the people he sent back to their tents.

²³ So find out all the hiding places he uses and come back to me with definite information, and I will go with you. If he is in the area I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah. ²⁴ Then they got up and went to Ziph before Saul. Now David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon in the Arabah, to the south of Jeshimon. ²⁵ Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told, he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon.

² Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the rocks of the wild goats.

¹⁷ to David, "You are more righteous than I am, because you have treated me well even though I've treated you poorly.

¹² Those who seek my life lay traps for me. Those who are out to harm me talk about ruining me. All day long they think of ways to deceive me.

⁴ Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the man of violence, who have purposed to overthrow my steps. ⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah. ⁶ I have said to the Lord, You are my God: give ear, O Lord, to the voice of my prayer. ⁷ LORD, my Lord, my strong deliverer, you have protected my head in the time of battle. ⁸ LORD, do not grant the desires of the wicked. Do not let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah. ⁹ Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with their own threats.

¹ Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men from Acacia Grove as spies, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and entered the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and spent the night there.

¹⁶ Look, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

¹ Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power.

⁵⁰ The name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the commander of his army was Abner son of Saul's uncle Ner. ⁵¹ Saul's father Kish and Abner's father Ner were sons of Abiel.

²⁰ David got up early in the morning, left the sheep with a keeper, took the supplies, and went as Jesse had directed him. He arrived at the encampment as the army was going out to the battle line, shouting the battle cry.

⁵⁵ When Saul saw David going out to meet the Philistine, he asked Abner, the commander of the army, "Whose son is this young man, Abner?" Abner said, "As surely as you live, your majesty, I don't know."

⁸ But Abner the son of Ner, the commander of Saul's army, had taken Ish-Bosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim. ⁹ Abner made him king of Gilead, Asher, Jezreel, Ephraim, and Benjamin, that is, all Israel. ¹⁰ Ish-Bosheth the son of Saul was forty years old when he became king over Israel and he reigned two years; however, the house of Judah followed David. ¹¹ The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months. ¹² And Abner son of Ner goeth out, and servants of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

⁷ Now Saul had a concubine, named Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. And Ishbosheth said to Abner, "Why have you gone in to my father's concubine?" ⁸ And Abner was very angry at the words of Ish-bosheth, and he said, Am I a dog's head of Judah? I am this day doing all in my power for the cause of your father Saul and for his brothers and his friends, and have not given you up into the hands of David, and now you say I have done wrong with a woman.

²⁷ And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there in the body, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

³³ The king sang a lament for Abner and said, "Should Abner have died the death of a fool? ³⁴ "Your hands were not bound. Your feet were not in fetters. You fell as one falls in front of wicked men. And all the people continued to cry for him." ³⁵ Everyone tried to persuade David to have a meal while there was still daylight, but David took an oath by saying, "May God to do like this to me and more, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun sets!" ³⁶ And all the people took note of it and were pleased: like everything the king did, it was pleasing to the people. ³⁷ So then all the people, and all Israel, took note, that day, that it was not of the king, to cause the death of Abner son of Ner. ³⁸ Then the king said to his servants, "Did you not realize that a prince and a great man has fallen today in Israel?

³⁹ Ner was the father of Kish, Kish the father of Saul, and Saul the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab and Esh-Baal. (Ish-Bosheth)

¹⁰ "If you are afraid to attack, go to the camp with your servant Purah. ¹¹ "You will hear what they are saying, and then you will have the courage to attack." Gideon and his servant Purah went to the edge of the enemy camp.

⁶ Jonathan said to his armor bearer, "Come, let's go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised ones. Perhaps the LORD will work for us, since nothing prevents the LORD from delivering, whether by many or by a few." ⁷ His armor bearer answered him: »Do whatever you have in mind. Go ahead! I agree with you.«

¹⁸ The three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Abishai and Asahel: and Asahel was as swift of foot as a wild gazelle.

⁶ And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

²¹ Who killed Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Did not a woman cast an upper millstone upon him from the wall so that he died at Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall? Then you will say, Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

²⁴ And the archers shot at your servants from off the wall, and some of the king's servants died, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

⁹ "'Why did you despise what the LORD has promised by doing what is detestable in his sight? "'You struck down Uriah the Hittite with a battle sword. "'You took his wife to be your own. "'You killed him with the sword of the Ammonite army.

⁹ Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king: "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over there and cut off his head!" ¹⁰ The king said, "What do we have in common, sons of Zeruiah? If he curses because the LORD has said to him 'Curse David,' who can say, "Why have you done this?"

⁵ And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Spare the young man Absalom for my sake. And all the people heard the king charging all the commanders concerning Absalom.

¹⁸ Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of the three. He lifted up his spear against three hundred and killed them, and had a name among the three.

³⁹ and Uriah the Hittite: thirty-seven in all.

¹⁵ the sixth Ozem and the seventh David. ¹⁶ Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah's three sons were Abishai, Joab and Asahel.

² for you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

³⁰ How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had delivered them up?

⁴⁴ the LORD gave them rest on every side, according to all that he had sworn to their ancestors, and nobody from all their enemies withstood them, for the LORD had given all their enemies into their hand.

⁴ And Judah went up, and the LORD gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, and they defeated ten thousand men at Bezek.

¹⁴ David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds and in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn't deliver him into his hand.

⁴ The men of David said to him, Look, the day of which the LORD said to you, 'I will deliver your enemy into your hand and you can do to him whatever you wish'. Then David got up and cut off a corner of Saul's robe secretly.

¹⁸ You have explained how you treated me well, in that the LORD delivered me into your hand but you didn't kill me. ¹⁹ For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away unharmed? Therefore may the LORD reward you good for that which you have done to me today.

²³ The LORD reward every man's righteousness and faith: for the LORD delivered thee into my hand this day, but I would not lay my hand upon the LORD's anointed.

⁸ You have not handed me over to the hand of the enemy. You have set my feet in a large place.

⁹ What do you plot against the LORD? He will completely destroy it; trouble will not rise up a second time!

³² For God has bound all men over to disobedience, that he may have mercy upon all.

²² But the scripture has declared all to be prisoners of sin, so that the promise, given on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. ²³ Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the Law, locked up until faith should be revealed.

⁶ And he said to his men, the LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the LORD`s anointed, to stretch forth my hand against him, for he is the anointed of the LORD. ⁷ So with these words David kept his servants back, and did not let them make an attack on Saul. And Saul got up and went on his way.

¹⁴ David said to him, "How were you not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the LORD's anointed?"

¹⁶ David said to him, "Your blood is on your head, for your mouth has testified against you by saying, 'I killed the LORD's anointed one!'"

¹⁵ "Do not touch my anointed ones. Do my prophets no harm."

²⁹ The time drew near that Israel must die, and he called his son Joseph, and said to him, "If now I have found favor in your sight, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me. Please do not bury me in Egypt,

¹⁴ Then the LORD said to Moses: "Behold, the time for you to die is near. Call Joshua, and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, that I may commission him." So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the tent of meeting.

³⁵ Vengeance is mine, I will repay, at the time when their foot slides; for the day of their calamity is near, and the things to come hasten upon them."

¹⁵ May the LORD therefore be judge, and judge between you and me, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.

²⁶ »the LORD kept you from spilling innocent blood and from getting a victory by your own efforts. As the LORD lives and you live, may your enemies and those who are trying to harm you end up like Nabal.

³⁸ About ten days later the LORD struck Nabal, and he died.

⁶ So Saul died, and his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men together that same day.

¹ "Does not a human being have hard service on earth? And are not his days like the days of a laborer?

⁵ "Man's days are determined. You have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed.

¹⁴ "If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait for my change (release) to come.

¹⁰ For yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more. Yes, though you look for his place, he isn’t there.

¹³ the Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming.

¹ O LORD, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth! ² Rise up, you judge of the earth. Pay back the proud what they deserve.

²³ He shall recompense them their wickedness, and destroy them in their own malice: yea the LORD our God shall destroy them.

² a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot what was planted;

⁷ And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?

¹⁹ Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

²⁷ Just as man is appointed to die once, and after that to face judgment,

⁸ Therefore in one day her plagues will come, pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.

⁶ And he said to his men, the LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the LORD`s anointed, to stretch forth my hand against him, for he is the anointed of the LORD.

¹² May the LORD judge between me and you, and may the LORD avenge the wrong you have done me; but my hand shall not be against you.

²¹ the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh.

¹² And when the sun was down, there fell a slumber upon Abram. And lo, fear and great darkness came upon him.

⁷ So David and Abishai came to the army by night, and there was Saul lying asleep in the encampment with his spear thrust into the ground near his head, and Abner and the army were lying all around him.

¹ On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king.

¹⁰ For the LORD has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes (the prophets), and he has covered your heads (the seers).

⁷ When they told Jotham he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim and shouted to them, Listen to me, you men of Shechem, so that God will listen to you.

⁸ Then David got up and left the cave. He called to Saul: "My lord!" When Saul looked back. David knelt down with his face touching the ground.

³¹ As long as Jesse's son lives on the earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established! Now send someone and bring David to me. He's a dead man!"

⁹ But David said to Abishai, "Destroy him not — for who can lay his hand on the LORD's anointed and be guiltless?"

¹¹ The LORD forbid that I should raise my hand against the LORD's anointed. Now take the spear that is at his head and the jug of water, and let's go."

⁵ David flew into a rage at the man and told Nathan, "As the LORD lives, the man who did this deserves to die!

²⁸ For all of my father's house were as dead men before my lord the king; yet you have set your servant among them that eat at your table; and what right have I any longer even to cry to the king?

¹¹ Let the cries of the prisoners reach you. With the strength of your power, release those condemned to death.

²⁰ to hear the groans of the prisoner; to free those who are condemned to death;

³ We all lived among them at one time in the cravings of our flesh, indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath.

¹⁶ When David had finished saying this to Saul, Saul said, Is this your voice, my son David? Saul wept aloud.

²⁹ David said, What have I done now? Can I not speak?

⁹ David said to Saul, Why do you listen when men say 'David is trying to harm you?'.

¹¹ »My master, look at this! The border of your robe is in my hand! I cut off the border of your robe and did not kill you. You should know and be able to see I mean no harm or rebellion. I have not sinned against you! But you are trying to ambush me in order to take my life. ¹² May the LORD judge between me and you, and may the LORD avenge the wrong you have done me; but my hand shall not be against you. ¹³ "An old proverb says: 'Only evil people do evil things.' So I will not harm you. ¹⁴ Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?

³ O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, ⁴ if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me, or oppressed my enemy without cause, ⁵ then let the enemy pursue and overtake me, trample my life to the ground, and lay me in the dust.

⁷ For they have hidden their pit-net for me without cause; without cause they have dug for my soul.

⁴ Those who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head. My persecutors are mighty, and they want to destroy me. Must I be forced to return what I did not steal?

⁴⁶ Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?

³² Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?"

²³ Jesus replied, “If I said something wrong, testify to what was wrong. But if I spoke correctly, why did you strike Me?”

²¹ the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, for the intent of his heart is evil from childhood. I will never again destroy every living creature, as I have done.

¹⁸ And Judah drew near him, and said, I pray, Sir, let your servant speak a word before you, and be not angry with your servant, for you are next to Pharaoh.

³¹ I will lay your cities waste, and will bring your sanctuaries to desolation. I will not take delight in the sweet fragrance of your offerings.

²⁷ The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations, where the LORD will drive you. ²⁸ There you will serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.

²⁵ For the LORD has made Jordan a border between us and you, sons of Reuben and sons of Gad. You have no part in the LORD. And your sons shall make our sons stop fearing the LORD. ²⁶ Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice: ²⁷ instead, it is a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us for performing the serving of the LORD in his presence with our burnt offerings, sacrifices, and fellowship offerings; so that your children may not say in the future to our children, "You have no portion in the LORD." '

¹⁴ Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul and an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him. ¹⁵ Saul's servants said to him, "Look, an evil spirit from God is troubling you. ¹⁶ Let our lord now command your servants who are before you to seek out a man who is a skilful player on the harp. When the evil spirit from God comes on you, he can play and you will feel better. ¹⁷ Saul said to his servants, Find me someone who can play well and bring him to me. ¹⁸ Then one of the young men said, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skilful in playing, a mighty man of valour, a man of war, who speaks well and is good-looking, and the LORD is with him. ¹⁹ So Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, "Send me your son David, who is with the sheep." ²⁰ Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a bottle of wine and a young goat and sent them by David his son to Saul. ²¹ So David came to Saul and entered his service. He loved him greatly and he became Saul's armor bearer. ²² Saul sent to Jesse saying, Please let David stay with me, for I am pleased with him. ²³ Whenever an evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the lyre and play it. Relief would come to Saul and he would be better, because the evil spirit would leave him.

¹⁰ The next day an evil spirit from God came mightily on Saul, and he prophesied in his house. David played his harp, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand

²⁴ She fell at his feet, and said, “On me, my lord, on me be the blame! Please let your servant speak in your ears. Hear the words of your servant.

¹⁶ Because the king will hear, let him deliver his servant out of the hand of the man who seeketh to remove me and my son from the inheritance of the Lord.

¹¹ David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, "Look, my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeks my life. How much more this Benjamite, now? Leave him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD has invited him.

¹⁹ I am among those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why will you swallow up the LORD's inheritance?”

¹ Again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, "Go, number Israel and Judah."

²² The LORD said to him, 'How?' He said, 'I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.'

¹ Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to take a census of Israel.

¹ For the music director. A maskil of the sons of Korah. As a deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, O God. ² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

¹ ALEPH. Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. ² Blessed are those who keep his statutes, who seek him with their whole heart. ³ Yes, they do nothing wrong. They walk in his ways. ⁴ You have commanded your precepts, that we should fully obey them. ⁵ Oh that my ways were steadfast to obey your statutes! ⁶ Then I would not be ashamed when I look to all your commands. ⁷ I will praise you with an upright heart, as I learn your righteous decrees. ⁸ I will heed your statutes; do not utterly forsake me.

⁵ Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

¹⁶ Here are six things that the LORD hates seven, in fact, are detestable to him: ¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood; ¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, ¹⁹ a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

¹⁰ Do not slander a servant to his master, or else he will curse you and you will be guilty.

⁵ "Then you will see this and rejoice. Your heart will shake with joy. The riches of the sea will be brought to you. The wealth of the nations will come to you.

¹⁵ If your brother is distressed by what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother, for whom Christ died.

⁸ But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a divine curse! ⁹ As we have said before, so I say again now, if any one is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let him be accursed!

¹² As for those who are agitating you, I wish they would proceed to emasculate themselves!

¹⁴ Alexander, the metal-worker, did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he did.

⁹ He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

¹⁴ Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?

²⁹ And though men have risen up to pursue you and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD your God. And the souls of your enemies, them he will sling out as from the hollow of a sling.

⁴⁷ While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.

⁵⁵ At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.

²⁷ Then Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, I have done evil this time: the Lord is upright, and I and my people are sinners.

³⁴ Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned because I did not know that you were standing to meet me in the road. Now, if it is displeasing to you, I will turn back."

²⁴ Then Saul told Samuel: "I have sinned by not following the LORD's command or your instructions. I was afraid of the people and listened to them.

³⁰ Then he said, I have sinned, yet please honour me now before the elders of my people and before Israel; come back with me so that I may worship the LORD your God.

³⁰ The Philistine commanders would go out to fight and whenever they did, David was more successful than any of Saul's other leaders. His name was held in high esteem.

²⁴ And so, as your life was dear to me today, may my life be dear to the Lord, and may he make me free from all my troubles.

⁴ When Saul was told that David had fled to Gath he stopped searching for him.

⁸ For the redemption of their life is costly, no payment is ever enough,

¹⁵ Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

⁴ "I have sinned," he said, "in betraying innocent blood!" "What is that to us?" they answered; "you must see to that."

³² then hear in heaven, and act, and judge your servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

¹⁴ Remember me, my God, concerning this, and do not wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for its observances.

⁸ the LORD shall judge the people; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to my integrity on me. ⁹ Let the evil of the wicked come to an end. Establish the righteous, you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God.

²⁰ the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands he has repaid me. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And I have not been wicked by turning from my Elohim." ²² All his judgments are in front of me and I have not turned away from his laws. ²³ and I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt. ²⁴ Therefore the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. ²⁵ With the faithful you show yourself faithful. With the blameless man you show yourself blameless. ²⁶ To the pure you show yourself pure. but to the wicked you show yourself shrewd.

¹² Also to you, Lord, belongs gracious love, because you reward each person according to what he does.

¹⁶ the Angel who delivered me from all evils, bless these children! And let them be called by my name and by the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaak; and may they be increased to a great multitude on the earth!

¹ For the music director. Of David, the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. And he said: "I love you, O LORD, my strength."

²⁵ With the faithful you show yourself faithful. With the blameless man you show yourself blameless.

⁴⁸ He saves me from my enemies. You lift me up above my opponents. You rescue me from violent people.

¹⁷ The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. ¹⁸ the LORD is near to the broken-hearted; and saves those who are of a contrite spirit.

⁷ for he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eyes have seen the end of my enemies.

² my loyal love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, and one in whom I take refuge, the one who subdues peoples under me.

⁷ Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

² For with the same judgment you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith. “We must endure many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

⁹ Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. ¹⁰ He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us. In Him we have placed our hope that He will yet again deliver us,

² And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not everyone holds to the faith.

¹⁴ I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

²⁸ And he said, Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel: for in your fight with God and with men you have overcome.

⁹ He lies down, he rests as a lion; and as a young lion, who shall rouse him? Those that bless you are blessed, and those that curse you are cursed. ¹⁰ Balak's anger burned against Balaam. He struck his hands together and Balak said to Balaam: I called you to curse my enemies! But you have persisted in blessing them three times!

¹⁹ For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away unharmed? Therefore may the LORD reward you good for that which you have done to me today.

²² David gave his oath to Saul. Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

²⁵ When his speech is charming, do not believe him; for there are seven abominations in his heart.

¹⁷ "Weapons forged against you will not prevail! You will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD.

⁴ He struggled with the angel and won. Jacob cried and pleaded with him. Jacob found him at Bethel, and he talked with him there.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

³⁷ No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
