²¹ 'Look, I am bringing disaster on you, and I will sweep away after you. I will cut off for Ahab every male in Israel, bond or free.

⁵ You shall not bow down to them in worship or serve them; because I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the iniquity of the parents, to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, ⁶ but shewing mercy for thousands [of generations] to them who love me and keep my commandments.

³⁶ For the LORD shall judge his people, and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, and there is none left, slave or free.

²² God deal with David severely, if I leave alive one man of his by the morning.

³⁴ For as surely as the LORD God of Israel lives, the one who restrained me from harming you indeed, had you not quickly come to meet me, by dawn there wouldn't be a single male left to Nabal."

¹⁰ Therefore, look, I am about to bring disaster upon the house of Jeroboam, and I will cut off males from Jeroboam, bond or free, in Israel. I will burn after the house of Jeroboam as one burns after the manure, until it is finished.

⁷ You will destroy the house of Ahab your master, and you will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all of the servants of Yahweh, from the hand of Jezebel. ⁸ For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab every male, bond and free that is left in Israel: ⁹ and will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.

¹ Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria, and Jehu wrote letters, and he sent them to Samaria to the officials of Jezreel, to the elders and to the guardians of Ahab, saying, ² “Now as soon as this letter comes to you, since your master's sons are with you, and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and armor, ³ Choose the best and fittest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house. ⁴ But they were very afraid, and they said, "Look, two kings could not stand before him; how can we stand?" ⁵ So the officer in charge of the palace and the official in charge of the city, together with the leading citizens and the guardians, sent this message to Jehu: "We are your servants, and we are ready to do anything you say. But we will not make anyone king. Do whatever you think best." ⁶ And he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If you are mine, and will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men, your master's sons, and come to me to Jezreel by this time tomorrow. And the king's sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city who brought them up. ⁷ When the letter came to them, they took the sons of the king, and they killed seventy men. Then they put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel.

¹¹ So Jehu killed all who remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel and all his great men and his familiar friends and his priests, until he left to him none remaining. ¹² And he arose and went to Samaria, and he was in Beth Eked on the way. ¹³ And Jehu found the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are you? And they said, We are the brethren of Ahaziah, and we have come down to greet the sons of the king, and the sons of the queen. ¹⁴ And he said, Take them alive. And they killed them at Beth Eked, forty-two men: he left not a man of them.

¹⁷ And when he came to Samaria, he killed all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke to Elijah.

³⁰ the LORD said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in executing that which is right in my eyes, and have done to Ahab's house according to all that was in my heart, your descendants shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.”

²⁶ the LORD saw the bitter affliction of Israel. There was no one left, bond or free. There was no help for Israel.
