¹⁷ Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles:

Who shall then say, Wherefore have you done so? ¹¹ And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came out of my bowels, seeks my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD has bidden him. ¹² It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day. ¹³ And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side opposite to him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust. ¹⁴ And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.

²⁹ If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

¹⁵ But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the outcasts gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:

¹⁹ Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

¹⁰ As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is your God?

⁵ Whoso mocks the poor reproaches his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

¹² But you should not have looked on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

⁶ Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; ⁷ Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
