¹⁰ And they drove not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

⁵² Then all of you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places: ⁵³ And all of you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it. ⁵⁴ And all of you shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more all of you shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer all of you shall give the less inheritance: every man's inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falls; according to the tribes of your fathers all of you shall inherit. ⁵⁵ But if all of you will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which all of you let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein all of you dwell.

¹ When the LORD your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you; ² And when the LORD your God shall deliver them before you; you shall strike them, and utterly destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them:

⁶³ As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

¹³ Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were becoming strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not utterly drive them out.

²⁹ Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

¹⁶ For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon's wife.
