²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

⁷ How shall I pardon you for this? your children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses. ⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife. ⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? says the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

⁵ And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the worker in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, says the LORD of hosts.

⁴ Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
