¹ Therefore imitate God, as his dear children,

⁴⁵ That you may become Sons of your Father who is in Heaven; for he causes his sun to rise upon bad and good alike, and sends rain upon the righteous and upon the unrighteous.

⁴⁸ You, then, must become perfect--as your heavenly Father is perfect.

³⁵ But love your enemies, and show them kindness, and lend to them, never despairing. Then your reward shall be great, and you shall be Sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the thankless and the bad. ³⁶ Learn to be merciful--even as your Father is merciful.

¹² But to all who did receive him he gave power to become Children of God--to those who believe in his Name.

³² Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, ready to forgive one another, just as God, in Christ, forgave you.

¹² Therefore, as God's People, consecrated and dear to him, clothe yourselves with tenderness of heart, kindliness, humility, gentleness, forbearance;

¹⁵ but in your whole life show yourselves to be holy, after the pattern of the Holy One from whom you received your Call. ¹⁶ For Scripture says-- 'You shall be holy, because I am holy.'

¹ Think what love the Father has shown us in allowing us to be called 'Children of God'; as indeed we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it has not learned to know him. ² Dear friends, we are God's Children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is that, when it is revealed, we shall be like Christ; because we shall see him as he is.

¹¹ Dear friends, since God loved us thus, we, surely, ought to love one another.
