²³ His Command is this--that we should put our trust in the Name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, in accordance with the Command that he gave us.

³⁹ The second, which is like it, is this--'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thou dost thyself.'

⁷ Then a cloud came down and enveloped them; and from the cloud there came a voice--"This is my Son, the Beloved; him you must hear."

³ And the Immortal Life is this--to know thee the one true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou has sent as thy Messenger.

³¹ "Believe in Jesus, our Lord," they replied, "and you shall be saved, you and your household too."

² And live a life of love, following the example of the Christ, who loved you and gave himself for you as 'an offering and a sacrifice to God, that should be fragrant and acceptable.'

⁹ As to love for the Brethren there is no need to write to you; for you have yourselves been taught by God to love one another;

¹⁵ How true the saying is, and worthy of the fullest acceptance, that 'Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners'! And there is no greater sinner than I!

²² Now that, by your obedience to the Truth, you have purified your lives, so that there is growing up among you a genuine brotherly affection, love one another earnestly with all your hearts;

⁸ Above all things, let your love for one another be earnest, for 'Love throws a veil over countless sins.'

⁸ Yet, again, it is a new Command that I am writing to you-- manifest in Christ's life and in your own--for the Darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining. ⁹ He who says that he is in the Light, and yet hates his Brother, is in the Darkness even now. ¹⁰ He who loves his Brother is always in the Light, and there is nothing within him to cause him to stumble;

¹¹ For these are the Tidings that we heard from the first--that we are to love one another.

²¹ Indeed, we have this Command from God-- 'He who loves God must also love his Brother.'
