⁸ the book of the Law must never be out of thy mouth. Thou must study it day and night, that thou mayst know how to do all that are written. Then shalt thou be prospered; and thou wilt make thy ways prosperous; and then thou shalt have a good understanding.

²⁹ O that they may have their heart so disposed in them as to fear me, and to keep my commandments continually, that it may be well with them, and their children for ever.

³² Be careful therefore to do as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee. Turn not aside to the right, nor to the left,

⁶ And these injunctions, which I this day give thee in charge, shall be in thy heart, and in thy soul; ⁷ and thou shalt impress them on thy children, and speak of them, when thou sittest at home, and when thou art walking abroad, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up; ⁸ and thou shalt bind them for a sign on thy right hand, and it shall be immoveably before thine eyes. ⁹ You shall also write them on the posts of your houses and gates.

¹⁸ Therefore lay up these things in your heart, and in your soul, and bind them for a sign on your hand, that they may be immoveably before your eyes. ¹⁹ And you shall teach them to your children, by speaking of them, when thou sittest at home, and when thou walkest abroad, and when thou liest down to sleep, and when thou risest up.

¹⁸ And when he is settled in his government, he shall write for himself this repetition of the law in a book, from that which is in the custody of the priests, the Levites. ¹⁹ And he shall keep it by him, and shall read therein all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord thy God, and to keep all these commandments, and execute all these judgments;

⁹ you shall therefore be careful to perform all the words of this covenant. In order that you might fully comprehend all that you are to do,

¹⁴ The word is very near thee, in thy mouth and in thy heart, and in thy hand, to do it.

¹¹ when all Israel assemble, to appear before the Lord your God, in the place which the Lord shall chuse; you shall read this law before all Israel, in their hearing.

⁷ Therefore be strong, and courageous, to watch, and to do as my servant Moses commanded. Thou must not deviate from them, to the right or to the left. That thou mayst clearly understand all that thou art to do:

¹ Happy the man, who hath not walked by the counsel of the wicked; nor stood in the way of sinners; nor sat in the seat of the scornful. ² His delight will be in the law of the Lord only. And on his law he will meditate day and night. ³ And he will be like the tree planted by the streams of water, which will yield its fruit in due season, and its fruit shall not fall untimely. In all that he doth he shall be prospered.

¹⁴ And the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart, will be continually acceptable in thy sight: Lord, my helper and my redeemer.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous will speak wisdom, and his tongue will talk of justice. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart, and his footsteps shall not slide.

¹⁰ I have not hid thy truth in my heart, but have mentioned thy salvation; I have not concealed thy mercy and thy truth from a great congregation.

¹¹ I have hid thine oracles in my heart, that I may not sin against thee.

¹⁵ I will talk continually of thy commandments, and be attentive to thy ways.

⁴² and to them who reproach me I will make answer, that I have trusted in thy words. ⁴³ And take not the word of truth entirely from my mouth, for I have trusted in thy judgments;

⁹⁷ MEM. O! how I have loved thy law, Lord! It is my meditation all the day.

⁹⁹ I had more understanding than all my teachers: because thy testimonies are my study.

¹ My son, if thou wilt receive the dictate which I enjoin and hide it with thee, ² thine ear will hearken to wisdom; and thou wilt apply thy heart to understanding, and transmit it for instruction to thy son. ³ For if thou wilt call upon wisdom: and utter thy voice for understanding; ⁴ if thou wilt seek for it as silver; and search for it as for treasures; ⁵ then thou shalt understand the fear of the Lord; and find the knowledge of God.

¹ My son, forget not my laws; but let thy heart keep my commandments.

²¹ And this shall be my covenant with them, said the Lord, this spirit of mine which is upon thee, and these words which I have put in thy mouth shall not fail from thy mouth, nor from the mouth of thy seed, [for the Lord hath spoken] from this time forth forever.

²¹ Not every one who saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he who doeth the will of my father who is in heaven.

²⁴ Therefore whoever heareth these words of mine and putteth them in practice, him I will compare to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock.

³⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of his heart produceth good things; and the bad man, out of his bad treasure produceth bad things.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all that I commanded you. And lo! I am with you all the days to the conclusion of this age. Amen.

²⁸ Whereupon he said, Nay, rather happy they who hear the word of God and keep it.

¹⁷ If you know these things, happy are you if you practise them.

²¹ He who hath my commandments and keepeth them; he. it is who loveth me. And he who loveth me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.

²⁹ Let no corrupt discourse proceed out of your mouth; nothing but what is good for edification, of such utility as to be a benefit to the hearers.

¹⁶ Let the word of the Christ dwell richly in you with all wisdom, when you teach and admonish one another; when with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs you sing gratefully to the Lord with your heart.

¹⁴ Neglect not the gift which is in thee, which was given thee by prophesy with the laying on of the hands of the assembled elders. ¹⁵ Meditate on these things; be intent upon them. That thy improvement in all things may be manifest, ¹⁶ take heed to thyself and to thy doctrine; continue in them: for by doing this thou wilt save thyself and them who hearken to thee.

²² and be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. ²³ For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man viewing his natural face in a glass. ²⁴ For having viewed himself, and gone away, he instantly forgot what manner of person he was. ²⁵ But whosoever hath looked carefully into the perfect law of this liberty, and continued therein; he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of work, shall by his doing be happy.

¹⁴ Happy they who perform his commandments that they may have access to the tree of life and enter by the gates into the city:
