⁴ I will not, son of man, with avengement avenge them. Testify against them the iniquities of their fathers

³ Now therefore, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Juda, judge between me and my vineyard.

¹⁶ And as for thee, pray not thou for this people; nor supplicate for compassion to be shewn them: neither pray nor intercede with me for them; for I will not listen.

¹⁴ therefore pray not thou for this people, nor intercede for them with supplication and prayer; for I will not hearken when they call on me in the time of their distress.

¹¹ Then the Lord said to me, Pray not for the prosperity of this people; ¹² for though they fast I will not hear their prayer; and though they offer whole burnt offerings and sacrifices, I will not accept them. For with sword, and with famine, and with pestilence, I will utterly consume them. ¹³ Thereupon I said, O self-existent Lord! Behold their prophets prophesy and say, You shall not see the sword; nor shall there be famine among you. For I will give truth and peace in this land and in this very place. ¹⁴ Then the Lord said to me: These prophets prophesy falsehood in My name; I did not send them, nor command them, nor did I speak to them. Because they prophesy to you lying visions and divinations, and auguries, and the devices of their own hearts;

¹ Then the Lord said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before Me, My soul is not towards them. Send away this people and let them go.

¹⁴ should there be in it three such men as these Noe, Daniel and Job: They for their righteousness shall be saved, saith the Lord.

²⁰ and Noe, Daniel and Job be therein; As I live, saith the Lord, neither sons nor daughters shall be left: they for their righteousness shall deliver only their own souls.

² Son of man testify against Jerusalem her iniquities, ³ and thou shalt say, Thus saith the Lord to Jerusalem, Thy root and thy pedigree is from the land of Chanaan. Thy father was an Amorite and thy mother a Chettite,

² Now, son of man, if thou will judge this bloody city, then point out to it all its iniquities

³⁶ Again the Lord said to me, Son of man, wilt thou not arraign Oola and Ooliba, and announce to them their iniquities?

⁴⁵ therefore these are righteous men and they will punish them with the punishment of an adulteress and with the punishment for blood. Because they are adulteresses and there is blood on their hands,

²⁹ Alas for you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you build the sepulchres of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, ³⁰ and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers we would not have been their accomplices in the blood of the prophets. ³¹ So you testify against yourselves that you are the sons of them who killed the prophets. ³² As for you then, fill up the measure of your fathers. ³³ Serpents! brood of vipers! how can you escape the punishment of hell? ³⁴ For this, behold I am about to send you prophets, wise men and Scribes: and some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth; from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say to you, All these things will come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem! Jerusalem! thou that killest the prophets and stonest them who are sent to thee! how often have I desired to gather thy children even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings; but you would not!

⁴⁷ Alas for you; because you build the monuments of the prophets, and your fathers slew them. ⁴⁸ You therefore bear testimony, and approve the works of your fathers. Because they slew them, you, therefore, build their monuments; ⁴⁹ on this account indeed said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill, and others they will persecute, ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation. ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias who was slain between the altar and the temple: Verily I say to you, it will be required of this very generation.

³³ But I must continue my course to day and to morrow, and the day following; for it is not to be supposed that a prophet will be destroyed any where but in Jerusalem. ³⁴ O Jerusalem! Jerusalem! thou that killest the prophets and stonest them who are sent to thee! How often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen doth her brood under her wings; and ye would not. ³⁵ Behold your house is left for you a desolation. And verily I say to you, You shall not see me until the time come when you will say, Blessed he, who is coming in the name of the Lord!

⁵¹ O stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears Ye do always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? Indeed they have slain them who prophesied concerning the coming of that Righteous one, of whom you have now become the betrayers and murderers:

² Do you not know that the saints are to judge the world? If then the world is to be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge petty causes?
