¹⁶ and yet I saw under the sun a place of judgment; was the [[a] an objection, [b] the answer.] wicked there? and a place for the just; was the pious there?

⁹ This was the purport of the letter. Proclaim a fast and set Nabuthi at the head of the people, ¹⁰ and suborn two wicked men and let them testify against him saying, He renounced God and the king. Then let him be led out and stoned to death. ¹¹ And the men of the city, the elders and freemen who dwelt in his city did as Jezabel had sent to them, even as it was written in the letter she sent them. ¹² So having proclaimed a fast, they set Nabuthi at the head of the people, ¹³ and there came in two wicked men and sat over against him and testified against him saying, Thou hast renounced God and the king. Upon which they led him out of the city, and stoned him with stones so that he died. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezabel saying, Nabuthi hath been stoned and is dead. ¹⁵ When Jezabel heard she said to Achab, Arise and take possession of the vineyard of Nabuthi the Jezraelite, who would not give it to thee for money, for he is not alive, for he is dead. ¹⁶ But when Achab heard that Nabuthi the Jezraelite was dead, he rent his clothes and put on sackcloth; yet after doing this, he arose and went down to the vineyard of Nabuthi the Jezraelite, to take possession of it. ¹⁷ Whereupon the Lord spoke to Elias the Thesbite, saying, ¹⁸ Arise and go down to meet Achab king of Israel, who is at Samaria; for he is in the vineyard of Nabuthi; for he is gone down there to take possession of it ¹⁹ And thou shalt speak to him, and say, Thus saith the Lord, As thou hast murdered and taken possession, therefore thus saith the Lord, In every place where the swine and dogs have licked the blood of Nabuthi, there shall the dogs lick thy blood, and harlots shall bathe themselves in thy blood. ²⁰ And Achab said to Elias, Hast thou found me, my enemy? To which he replied, I have found thee. Because thou hast sold thyself to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to wrath, ²¹ behold I am going to bring evil upon thee, and I will kindle a flame after thee and utterly destroy the whole race of Achab, both him who is attended and him who is neglected in Israel.

¹ For the conclusion. Destroy not. By David, for a monumental inscription. Do you indeed speak righteousness? Do you judge uprightly, sons of men? ² In heart, indeed, you are working iniquity in the land: your hands are weaving injustice.

² [J] How long will you judge unjustly; and respect the persons of sinners? [[J] Jehovah [p] the prophet or psalmist.] ³ Do justice to the fatherless and the afflicted; Justify the lowly and the needy. ⁴ Rescue the needy and deliver the afflicted out of the sinner's hand. ⁵ They did not know; nor did they understand. They walked on in darkness. All the foundations of the land shall be shaken.

²¹ Shall they hunt for the soul of the righteous? And shall they condemn innocent blood? ²² The Lord indeed was my refuge: my God was the support of my hope.

¹ Then I turned and took a view of all the different sorts of oppression under the sun; and behold the tear of the oppressed and they have no comforter. Though from the hand of oppressors some have relief; yet others have no comforter.

⁸ If thou seest a frivolous accusation of a poor man, and a rigorous exaction of judgment and justice in a country, marvel not at the matter. Because there is a high one over a high one to watch, and high ones are for these things,

¹⁴ we have indeed turned judgment backward, therefore saving mercy standeth aloof." [p] Because truth was destroyed in their ways and; they could not walk in straight paths;

² They coveted fields and plundered orphans and tyrannised over houses; they plundered a man and his household; a man and his inheritance;

³ they are preparing their hands for evil. The chief asketh and the judge hath spoken words of peace! He is entirely at his devotion;

³ her chiefs within her were like roaring lions, and her judges like the Wolves of Arabia. They left nothing for the morning:

⁵⁹ And the chief priests and the elders, even the whole Sanhedrim, sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death,

³ Whereupon Paul said to him, God is about to smite thee, thou whited wall! Dost thou sit to judge according to the law, and in defiance of the law order me to be smitten?

⁶ But you have treated the poor with disdain. Do not the rich domineer over you? Do they not drag you to tribunals?
