¹¹ that Satan may not get an advantage over us, for we are not ignorant of his devices.

¹ Now when an adversary stood up in Israel and persuaded David to number Israel, ² and king David said to Joab and the chiefs of the army, Go, number Israel from Dan to Bersabee, and let me know the number of them,

¹¹ But put forth thine hand and touch all that he hath, he will indeed openly renounce thee.

³ And the Lord said to Satan, Thou hast therefore attended to my servant Job; that there is not of those on the earth a man like him, guiltless, true, unblameable, abstaining from all evil. Still he retaineth his innocence; so that thou hast ordered the destruction of his property, without accomplishing thy purpose.

⁵ Only put forth thy hand, and touch his bones and his flesh, he will indeed openly renounce thee.

⁹ And much time having elapsed, his wife said to him, How long wilt thou persist saying, Behold I will wait yet a little longer, in hope and expectation of my deliverance? For behold the memorial of thee; those sons and daughters, whom I brought forth with pangs and sorrow, and for whom I toiled in vain, are vanished from the earth; and thou thyself sittest among the putrefaction of worms, all night long in the open air, while I am wandering about, or working for wages, from place to place and from house to house, wishing for the setting of the sun, that I may rest from the labours and sorrows I endure. Do but say something for the Lord and die.

¹ Then the Lord shewed me Jesus the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan stood at his right hand to oppose him. ² And the Lord said to Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, Satan! even the Lord who hath chosen Jerusalem, rebuke thee! lo! is not this like a brand snatched from fire? ³ [Now Jesus was clothed with filthy garments and stood before the angel.] ⁴ Then [the Lord] addressing them who stood before him, spoke, saying, Take away from him those filthy garments; [and to him he said, Behold I have taken away thy transgressions] and clothe ye him with a flowing robe

¹⁰ Whereupon Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan: for it is written, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and serve him alone.

³¹ Then the Lord said to Simon, Simon! behold Satan hath earnestly requested to have you in his power, that he may sift you as wheat:

² When they were at supper [the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot son of Simon to deliver him up,]

²⁵ to take the share of this ministration and apostleship which Judas abandoned to go to his own place,"

⁵ Withdraw not from each other, unless by mutual consent for a time, that you may devote yourselves to fasting and prayer. Then come together again that satan may not tempt you through your incontinence.

⁴ with which the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the disbelieving, that the splendour of the glad tidings of the glory of the Christ, who is an image of God, may not shine upon them.

³ but I am afraid lest by some means as the serpent by his subtilty deceived Eve, so your affections should be corrupted from their singleness for the Christ.

¹⁴ Nor is this to be wondered at; for Satan himself putteth on the appearance of an angel of light:

¹¹ Put on the complete armour of God, that you may be able to withstand the wiles of the devil. ¹² Because our conflict is not barely with flesh and blood, but against the principalities and the powers; against the rulers of this dark age, against the spiritual [assaults] of the wickedness in the heavenly dispensation;

²⁵ with meekness instructing opposers: perhaps God may grant them a change of mind so as to acknowledge the truth,

⁸ be sober, be watchful: because your adversary the devil is walking about, like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour,

²⁴ But to you I say, even to the rest at Thyatira, to as many as do not hold this doctrine, and who have not known the depths [as they call them] of satan; on you I will lay no other burthen, besides what you have;

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out that old serpent who is called The Devil and Satan who leadeth the whole world astray. He was thrown on the earth and his angels were thrown with him. ¹⁰ And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven. "Now is come salvation and the power and reign of our God and the authority of Christ himself; for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, he who accused them before our God day and night; ¹¹ and they have conquered him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony and have not spared to expose their life even to death.

⁸ and it is to be worshipped by all the inhabitants of the earth whose names are not written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain.
