¹ When David had built houses for himself in the city of David, and prepared the place for the ark of God, and made for it a tabernacle:

⁹ And David made his abode in the fort, so it was called the city of David. And David built the city, around the citadel and his own house.

⁷ And David sent to the house to Themar, and said, Go, I pray thee, to thy brother's house, and prepare something for him to eat. ⁸ Accordingly Themar went to the house of Amnon, her brother, and he was a bed; and she took the dough, and kneaded it, and made it into cakes before his eyes, and stewed them

²⁴ And the king said, Let him return to his house, and not see my face. So Abessalom returned to his house, and did not see the king's face.

³ So when David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring the ark of the Lord to the place which he had prepared for it,

¹ And when they had brought in the ark of God and set it in the midst of the tabernacle, which David had erected for it, they offered whole burnt offerings and offerings of thanks giving before God.

¹ When David was settled in his house, he said to Nathan the prophet, Behold I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is beneath curtains of skin. ² Thereupon Nathan said to David, Do whatever is in thy heart; for God is with thee. ³ But that very night there came to Nathan a word of the Lord, ⁴ Go, and say to David my servant, Thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in. ⁵ Because I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought up Israel even to this day, but have been in a tent and under a curtain

⁵ nor rest to my temples; until I find a place for the Lord; a habitation for the God of Jacob."

⁴⁶ who found favour in the sight of God, and made it his petition to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.
