³ And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:

² I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

² Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: For the LORD has spoken, "I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me.

¹ "Woe to the rebellious children", said the LORD, "that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

⁹ That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:

¹⁰ But they rebelled, and vexed His holy Spirit: Therefore He was turned to be their enemy, and He fought against them.

¹³ And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, "What do you see?" And I said, "I see a seething pot; and the face of it is toward the north."

¹³ Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: Everyone who goes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues. ¹⁴ Put yourselves in array against Babylon on every side: All you who bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: For she has sinned against the LORD.

³ And He said to me, "Son of man, I send you to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me: They and their fathers have transgressed against Me, even to this very day.

⁶ And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you dwell among scorpions: Do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

⁸ But you, son of man, hear what I say to you; Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house: Open your mouth, and eat what I give you.

⁹ I have made your forehead like an adamant harder than flint: Do not fear them, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house."

³ Who say, 'It is not near; let us build houses: This city is the caldron, and we are the flesh.'

⁷ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Your slain whom you have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh, and this city is the caldron: But I will bring you forth out of the midst of it.

¹¹ This city shall not be your caldron, neither shall you be the flesh in the middle of it; but I will judge you in the border of Israel:

² "Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see, and don't see; they have ears to hear, and don't hear: For they are a rebellious house.

²⁵ For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall not be prolonged any longer: For in your days, O rebellious house, I will say the word, and will perform it", said the Lord GOD.

² "Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel;

¹² "Say now to the rebellious house, 'Do you not know what these things mean?' Tell them, 'Behold, the king of Babylon has come to Jerusalem, and has taken its king, and its princes, and led them with him to Babylon;

² and say, 'What is your mother? A lioness: She lay down among lions, she nourished her whelps among young lions. ³ And she brought up one of her whelps: It became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it devoured men. ⁴ The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit, and they brought him with chains to the land of Egypt. ⁵ Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion. ⁶ And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion, and learned to catch the prey, and devoured men. ⁷ And he knew their desolate palaces, and he laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fullness of it, by the noise of his roaring. ⁸ Then the nations set against him from the provinces on every side, and spread their net over him: He was taken in their pit. ⁹ And they put him in the prison ward in chains, and brought him to the king of Babylon: They brought him into holds, that his voice should no longer be heard upon the mountains of Israel. ¹⁰ Your mother is like a vine in your blood, planted by the waters: She was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters. ¹¹ And she had strong rods for the scepters of those who bore rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches. ¹² But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: Her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire consumed them. ¹³ And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground. ¹⁴ And fire has gone out from a rod of her branches, which has devoured her fruit, so that she has no strong rod to be a scepter to rule.' " This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

⁴⁹ Then I said, "Ah Lord GOD! They say of me, 'Does he not speak parables?' "

⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is in it, and whose scum has not gone out of it! Bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it.

⁴ In that day one shall take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, 'We are utterly pillaged: He has changed the portion of my people: How He has removed it from me! Turning away He has divided our fields.' "

¹² And they sought to lay hold of Him, but feared the people: For they knew that He had spoken the parable against them: And they left Him, and went their way.

¹⁰ And He said, "To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: But to others in parables; that 'Seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.'

⁵¹ "You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit: As your fathers did, so you do.
