¹⁷ Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king listened to them.

²⁷ For I know your rebellion, and your stiff neck: Behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, you have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?

⁸ But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him. ⁹ And he said to them, "What advice give you that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, "Ease somewhat the yoke that your father did put on us? ¹⁰ And the young men that were brought up with him spoke to him, saying, "Thus shall you answer the people that spoke to you, saying, "Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it somewhat lighter for us; thus shall you say to them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

³ He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: For his mother was his counselor to do wickedly. ⁴ Why he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab: For they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.

³² And he shall corrupt by flatteries those who do wickedly against the covenant: But the people that know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

²⁹ For I know this, that after my departure grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ Also men shall arise from among your own selves, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after themselves.

¹⁵ Moreover, I will endeavor that after my decease you may be able to have these things always in remembrance.
