^{17 (20:4)} And coming to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father abound in bread, but I perish here with hunger! ¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and say to him, Father, I have sinned to Heaven, and before you; ¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired servants. ²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet far off, his father saw him, and had compassion on him, and ran and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned to Heaven, and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.

¹⁵ And he said to them, You are they that justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts; for that which is high among men is an abomination before God.

^{9 (23:2)} And he also spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: ¹⁰ Two men went up to the temple to pray; one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee, standing by himself, offered this prayer; God, I thank thee that I am not as other men, rapacious, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican; ¹² I fast twice a week; I tithe all I acquire.

⁹ of sin, because they believe not on me; ¹⁰ and of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you behold me no more;

¹⁷ For God's righteousness is revealed in it by faith in the faith [the gospel]; as it is written; The righteous shall live by faith.

²² but God's righteousness is through the faith of Jesus Christ, in all and upon all that believe. For there is no difference;

²⁶ to show his righteousness at the present time, that he may be righteous and justify him that is of faith.

¹⁹ for as through the disobedience of the one man the many were constituted sinners, so also through the obedience of the one shall the many be constituted righteous.

^{30 (7:3)} What shall we say then? That nations who did not pursue righteousness attained a righteousness, but the righteousness which is by faith; ³¹ but Israel who pursued the law of righteousness did not attain to the law of righteousness. ³² For what reason? Because they are not of faith, but as it were of works of the law; for they stumbled at the stone of stumbling,

²¹ For he made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become God's righteousness in him.

³ For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is bound to perform the whole law. ⁴ You have departed from Christ, whoever of you are justified by the law, you have fallen from the grace.

⁹ and be found in him, not having my righteousness by the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness of God by the faith,
