¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, who says, You shall continue to hear, but not understand; and you shall continue to see, but not perceive:

¹² That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest they should be converted, and their sins be forgiven.

¹⁰ And he said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others it is in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.

³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because as Isaiah also said, ⁴⁰ He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, and turn to me, that I should heal them.

²⁵ And when they could not agree among themselves, they departed, after Paul spoke one last statement, Well did the Holy Spirit speak by Isaiah the prophet to our fathers, ²⁶ Saying, Go to this people, and say, You shall keep hearing, and shall not understand; and keep seeing, but not perceive: ²⁷ For the heart of this people has grown calloused, and with their ears they barely hear, and they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn, that I should heal them.

⁸ As it is written, God has given them the spirit of stupor, eyes that should not see, and ears that should not hear; down to this day. ⁹ And David says, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a retribution to them: ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their backs forever.

¹⁴ But their minds were hardened: for to this day the same veil remains unlifted at the reading of the old covenant; because it is only removed through Christ.
