⁶⁶ And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the maids of the high priest came:

⁵⁸ But Peter followed him from afar to the high priest's courtyard, and went in, and sat with the guards, to see the outcome.

⁶⁹ Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard: and a maid came to him, saying, You also were with Jesus of Galilee. ⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all, saying, I know not what your are saying. ⁷¹ And when he went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and said to those who were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. ⁷² And again he denied it with an oath, I do not know the man. ⁷³ And after a while the bystanders came to him, and said to Peter, Surely you also are one of them; for your speech betrays you. ⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know the man. And immediately the cock crowed. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word Jesus said to him, Before the cock crows, you shall deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁵⁴ And Peter followed him from afar, even into the courtyard of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

⁵⁵ And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard, and sat down together, Peter sat among them. ⁵⁶ But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. ⁵⁷ And he denied it, saying, Woman, I do not know him. ⁵⁸ And after a little while another saw him, and said, You are also one of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. ⁵⁹ And after about an hour another insisted, Truly this man was also with him: for he is a Galilaean. ⁶⁰ And Peter said, Man, I do not know what you are saying. And immediately, while he yet spoke, the cock crowed. ⁶¹ And the Lord turned, and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, Before the cock crows today, you shall deny me thrice. ⁶² And he went out, and wept bitterly.

¹⁵ And Simon Peter followed Jesus, as did another disciple: that disciple was known to the high priest, and went with Jesus into the court of the high priest. ¹⁶ But Peter stood outside at the door. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter. ¹⁷ Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, Are you not also one of this man's disciples? He said, I am not. ¹⁸ Now the servants and officers who stood there had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.

He denied it, and said, I am not. ²⁶ One of the servants of the high priest, a kinsman of the man whose ear Peter cut off, said, Did I not see you in the garden with him? ²⁷ Peter denied it again: and immediately the cock crowed.
