⁴⁸ And many commanded him to hold his peace: but he cried out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me.

²³ But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, Send her away; for she cries after us. ²⁴ But he answered and said, I have been sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ²⁵ Then she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. ²⁶ But he answered and said, It is not proper to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. ²⁷ And she said, True, Lord: yet the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. ²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said to her, O woman, great is your faith: be it done for you as you wish. And her daughter was made well from that very hour.

¹³ Then little children were brought to him, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: but the disciples rebuked them.

³¹ And the multitude rebuked them, telling them to be quiet: but they cried out all the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David.

³⁵ While he was speaking, messengers came from the ruler of the synagogue's house and said, Your daughter is dead: why trouble the Teacher further?

²⁶ The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth; and she begged him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter. ²⁷ But Jesus said to her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not right to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the dogs. ²⁸ And she answered and said to him, Yes, Lord: but even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs. ²⁹ And he said to her, For this answer go your way; the devil has gone out of your daughter.

⁵ And he said to them, Suppose you have a friend and go to him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves; ⁶ For a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him. ⁷ And from within he shall answer and say, Do not trouble me: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give you anything. ⁸ I say to you, Though he will not rise and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs. ⁹ And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. ¹⁰ For every one who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it shall be opened.

¹ And he spoke a parable to them to show that men ought always to pray, and not loose heart; ² Saying, There was a judge in a city, who did not fear God or respect man: ³ And there was a widow in that city; and she kept coming to him, saying, Give me justice against my adversary. ⁴ And he would not for a while: but afterward he said to himself, Though I do not fear God or respect man; ⁵ Yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her justice, lest by her continual coming she wear me out. ⁶ And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge says. ⁷ And shall not God vindicate his elect, who cry day and night to him, and will he delay long with them? ⁸ I tell you that he will vindicate them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?

³⁹ And those who led the way rebuked him, telling him to hold his peace: but he cried out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me.

¹⁸ Praying always in the Spirit with all manner of prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert in it with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints;

⁷ In the days of his flesh, he offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his piety.
