³¹ And he said to him, If they will not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.

⁴³ And when he had said this, he cried out with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. ⁴⁴ And the dead man came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, Unbind him, and let him go. ⁴⁵ Then many of the Jews who came with Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed in him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things Jesus had done. ⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What should we do? for this man performs many miraculous signs . ⁴⁸ If we let him go on like this, all men will believe in him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and our nation. ⁴⁹ And one of them, named Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year, said to them, You know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ Nor do you consider that it is expedient for you, that one man should die for the people, so that the whole nation should not perish. ⁵¹ And this he did not speak of his own accord: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation; ⁵² And not for that nation only, but also that he should gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. ⁵³ Then from that day forth they planned together how to put him to death.

¹⁰ But the chief priests discussed how they might put Lazarus to death also; ¹¹ Because on account of him many of the Jews went away, and believed in Jesus.

⁸ And he went into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for the space of three months, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God.

²⁸ Then Agrippa said to Paul, In such a short time do you think you can persuade me to become a Christian?

²³ And when they had appointed a day, many came to him in his lodging; to whom he explained and testified of the kingdom of God, trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning until evening.

³ But if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.

¹¹ Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men. But what we are is plain to God; and I also trust it is plain to your consciences.
